Hi jeneffer,
One thing to know in case you have not been informed is that if the teeth being removed are abscessed or root canaled, then the jaw bone may not be healthy enough to receive a bone graft when the teeth are extracted. Bone grafting is more successful and much less likely to become infected if the area of jaw bone receiving the graft is healthy. If the teeth being extracted have not infected the jaw bone and the bone is healthy enough to receive the grafts, then the reason for placing the grafts is to reduce the amount of overall bone loss that occurs when teeth are extracted. When a tooth is extracted, there is about 50% bone loss which means the height and width of the bone recedes over time. A successful graft will reduce the bone recession and preserve the level of bone at a higher amount compared to not having the bone graft. I hope this information is helpful to you. Bryanna

yes that does help as far as I know the teeth are both severly infected having to go though 2 10 day courses of antibiotic treatments so far since march 29th. My hopefully goal is to remove all teeth as they are all bad and never really received good dental care from birth till now and maybe get dentures put in.But like you said I don't think the bone graft will take and at 300 bucks a pop this person just don't have that.

Jeneffer,
I don't know if your dentist has informed you of this so I will offer you this information here. If your dental health is in jeopardy to the point where you have infections that are going to require that you remove all of your teeth, then your overall health is in jeopardy as well because that infectious bacteria is not limited to just your mouth it is continuously filtering through your organs and your bloodstream. I have a sense that finances are an issue. However, if you continue to take a tooth out here and there and infection is brewing elsewhere in your mouth, the extraction sites are not going to heal properly which can lead to severe jaw bone deterioration. This could make the fitting of a denture sometime down the road very difficult. It really is best for your dental and physical health to have a complete dental evaluation with x-rays of all of your teeth. Discuss treatment plan options with your dentist and make a decision to move forward with one of them. My intention is not to scare you but to clearly inform you that your oral health is intricately connected to all of your organs and immune system. If you have other questions, please feel free to come here and discuss them with us. Bryanna Quote:
