Default I swear by OPC's (grape seed ex, pycnogenol)

for so many health systems in our bodies including gums and eye health.

I'm headed into 20 yrs on these OPC's....

Back before I got on Pycnogenol in 1995, I was told I had pockets in my gums and they are gone....it's these OPC's.

Do your research, google OPC's and gum health and any other issues for that matter....I can't say enough about this short of a miracle antioxidant.

I am not a doctor for sure, working to save myself from as much misery as I can...a hip replacement in 2010 has been a huge setback in my life...I'm 77 this year....C

I've passed 20 yrs on these OPC's and gum health continues to be healthy.

I continue to make my own toothpaste with a coconut oil base, to this I add MSM powder (optional), some people add baking soda, I add drops of clove oil and a few drops of Oil of Oregano. I have a tooth area that I'm keeping pretty infection free.

I've also used Hydrogen Peroxide rinse for years.

I've used Oil Pulling with coconut oil but don't on a regular basis. You can find info online about oil pulling.

There is a lot of info on Oil of Oregano and teeth infections. There are many home remedies that do work. I've been thru years of dental work and now do my own work.

Caroline,

How do you know that your pocket depths are reduced? When is the last time that a dentist measured them?

All of the medicament's that you use have therapeutic value. But none of them, irrelevant of how often or how much of them you use, will cure an infected tooth. They are also only minimally effective for gum health if you have a build up of tartar below the gum line. When is the last time that you had a professional dental cleaning?

Bryanna, I was told from a dentist when I lived in San Jose for 5 yrs back in the 80's that I had "pockets"...I was not on grape seed ex at that time. I didn't find grape seed ex until 1995 after I moved back to the Los Angeles area. I never did deep scaling, etc. and for years back down here I had regular check ups and NEVER a mention of pockets. I had a prof cleaning about 2 yrs ago and find that my own work is working for me. I was just talking to a neighbor who is older than me and she goes two times per year for cleaning and she was talking about how much her mouth hurts after cleanings.

She's the one too, who is dealing with pain after two fairly new crowns. We both live on fixed incomes and dental work is so expensive and so I've chosen to keep my mouth healthy on my own. I've talked to enough other folks who work as I do on their dental health.

Believe me, I've gone the dental route MOST of my life...and I'm not just guessing at what I do. There is so much info available in this "new world" of information.

After thinking about the deep pocket issue I did some searching and found this from the Univ of Buffalo re: smokers and gum issues. I've never smoked but I'm sure smokers have even had worse issues with dental health. I take 2-4K of Vit C thru the day and 30Billion probiotics daily. Considering my long life and lbs of sugars I've consumed, my mouth is not in bad shape. I believe my prevention is helping me.

I thought I'd bump this up with two fold info: dental plans and grape seed ex info.

I've been in a dental plan for some yrs, smilesaver, but right now none. My teeth have been good and believe my coconut oil toothpaste and decades of grape seed extract use keep my mouth healthy NOW. What's left in my old mouth is pretty good and believe me I've had a ton of dental work years prior.

My gums are tight and I'm finally wising up to over eating sugars and carbs. And no plaque thanks to CO toothpaste.
