caroline2,
The topical fluoride used on kids in the dental office is given at the cleaning appts. So the most she would have had it would be twice a year if that. I still don't condone that. Unless, she was using the fluoride in trays at home? Some dentists recommend them when a child has poor oral hygiene or braces. Using that amount of fluoride daily in the trays will cause fluorosis. Oh she went thru the braces, so MAYBE that is what she was dealing with doing "F" at home....grrrrrrrrrrr
They don't tell me everything and they shouldn't and I don't want to know everything but when she showed me her beautiful teeth last Dec I was shocked and I let it be known. My daughter got upset with me for some time .. I guess she took it personal that she was negligent. I was bashing the "F" industry. Thanks.... |

Bumping up...I continue to be amazed at the wonderful benefits of making my own Coconut Oil toothpaste...I brush with soft brush probably 3 times per day and virtually no plaque build up. I haven't done a professional cleaning in about 3 yrs now. Believe I've done my share of those harsh cleanings. Just what works for me.

I know of two SLS free toothpastes. My friend uses Tom's of Maine SLS Free
http://www.tomsofmainestore.com/cate...paste-sls-free I've used many of Tom's over the years but before I started making my own I was using Weleda Calendula Sulfate free TP. It seems Sulfate is used in many TP's but here are a couple I know of. |

caroline2,
As always, thanks for the alternative information. Have you read the ingredients in Tom's toothpaste? It contains ingredients (other than fluoride) that are not considered to be necessary or healthy for our gums and teeth. I think sometimes people see the term "natural" or "free" of something like fluoride and assume the product contains useful ingredients. If someone is concerned about the ingredients in their toothpaste, then as you have mentioned making your own toothpaste with a few key ingredients would be ideal. Things like coconut oil, baking soda and essential oils are all therapeutic and won't hurt our gums, teeth or digestion if swallowed. Thanks, Bryanna UOTE=caroline2;1205000]I know of two SLS free toothpastes. Oh Bryanna, I know Toms isn't totally free of the nasties...but I was looking at the SLS issue and thought I'd bring that up.
I continue to make my own and don't want to go back to the bought brands. I just made up a nice batch today and as long as I have the time and will to do it, I'll continue to make my coconut oil base TP. The proof for me is in the health of my mouth after a long life of dental issues. C |

Both Tom's SLS-free toothpaste contain GLYCERIN; glycerin form film over teeth and prevent saliva to remineralize teeth enamel. So not a good choice.
I notice Crest recently stop using glycerin in most of their tooth paste which is a big surprise to me but Colgate still using glycerin in their products. Best is to make my own toothpaste. |

Bumping up as reminder. I truly believe CO toothpaste could keep so many from dental issues. I've had plenty of dental work in my life and if I knew then what I know now, perhaps I wouldn't have had all the issues I dealt with. Grape Seed Ex is incredible for gum and teeth health also. I knew none of this back in my dental problems life. CO tp is keeping my teeth and mouth healthy. No dental visits for me in about 5 yrs. I know this sounds outrageous to many, but I'm happy not to go ... just saying and sharing.
