I had my 2 lower wisdom teeth removed 7 months ago. It was a terrible surgery, the anesthesia wore off very quickly and they hadn't even had time to clean me up all the way. Anyways, on the lower left side there was a cyst, they said it was more difficult to extract but should heal.

Inevitably I ended up with an abcess but the dentist said I waited too long to have it treated so I had to wait out the healing process. This took about 2 months.

After three months the incision area where they had to cut by my back molar started acting up, I went into the dentist again (by this time I had run out of dental insurance thanks to how expensive the surgery was), he said it was just being irritated by some food.

Now it is 7 months later, 3 weeks ago I started experiencing the same type of pain as before, I cleaned vigorously and hoped the pain would ease up. Nothing helped, eventually I couldn't handle it anymore and had to go in to the dentist. They had no idea what the pain was from, they did an X-Ray and said no infection and no reason for the pain. The only thing they could think of was fixing the filling in that tooth, so I did for $350...yay.

I waited for the pain to ease and it never did, the next week I went back, they looked again and noticed that when they blew air around the tooth all of the gums peeled back. That was the pain I was feeling, my gums are separating from my back tooth, starting where the incision was at the back tooth. It feels like I'm getting my wisdom teeth taken out all over again. He said all I could do was use this anti-microbial mouth wash for 10 days and hope it heals. He said if that does not do it I may have to look into orthodontics to straighten my teeth as the back 2 are very close together.

I've been taking the anti-microbial for 4 days and the pain is still severe, I'm worried that whatever this is may spread to my other teeth and I hate having to take ibuprofin and T3's all the time.

Has anyone dealt with this before? How long does the pain last, how long will it take to heal? I'm really hoping I don't have to go back to the dentist because I really can't afford it.

Why are you cleaning that area "vigorously" and what are you using to clean it with? The gum tissue may be inflamed and irritated from something you are doing or using.

Is this dentist an oral surgeon? If not, then it would behoove you to have the site evaluated by an oral surgeon. You would need to bring your pre and post op xrays with you.
