Default abscessed tooth extraction.. scared

Hi! I am so glad I found this forum after searching google.
I have bad teeth and I have lost already about 6 of the, also have diabetes 2, woman 36 years old

15 sept I went to dentist because I broke root canaled tooth (2nd premolar or nr 13th upper left side). The tooth also had missing filling from months ago. Dentist made an xray and found large abscess under it and advised that it need to come out right away. The extraction took longer than usually because it was strong and huge. Dentist said that the abscess had went through bone to sinuses and yes I really did have major sinus issues all year. He did some kind of bone treatment to help it heal. He said it was close to sinuses but no hole happened, still suggested to be careful sneezing and blowing nose.
I am on amoxicillin 500 mg 3 times a day.
I really did not have any swelling ( not even now) and not much blood ( just same day) I have been swishing with salt water.
What makes me worried are several things now week later. I do have still a lot of sinus pressure - like small tenderness around nose, eye and forehead. First couple of days I had bad runny nose and much more pressure. I am most worried about pressure (not pain) in the back of my head, side of face, behind ear and back of the neck - I don't understand why I feel like that. Also my lower jaw same side seems to have pressure as well but extraction was on upper side. Sometimes I get bad taste in mouth but I don't seem to get any discharge
I am super worried that infection has spread and keeps spreading . I have had major anxciety all this week and worring myself sick because I have small kids and I need to get better not worse. The pressure is not there all the time but comes and goes. I also think that my back tooth on same side lower side has issues too, so can it be a problem or is it more serious?
Please help because my life has been so stressful this week

I'm certainly not an expert but I hear so much good about Oil of Oregano, do a good search on it for it addresses so much I've read and heard from others. I'm buying it and will keep it on hand for any issues that I feel this oil could help.

For me, I've been taking grape seed extract for 20 yrs and KNOW it has about gotten rid of allergy/sinus issues overall for me. grape seed ex also reduces diabetic symptoms. Again do a search on this powerful antioxidant. Best I can offer and hope you can get relief. Collodial Silver is very effective too. I use it for some yrs and coconut oil too.

Hi rintsike,

Welcome to our dental forum

Thank you for sharing information about your teeth and your health. It will be useful in helping you.

Was the dentist that removed your tooth a general dentist or an oral surgeon? I ask that because most people do not know that general dentists, other than those who have undergone additional surgical training, usually have limited training and experience in surgical procedures. So sometimes their surgery is not as thorough as it should be.

If it was a general dentist then it may behoove you to consult with an oral surgeon to evaluate you for a sinus communication and infection especially since it was so infected and since you had and still have pain in your face and sinus pressure. Oral surgeons have extensive education, training and experience in the removal of infected root canaled teeth with and without sinus communication and handle these cases a bit differently than general dentists.

The pain in your lower jaw may be another infection brewing. So because you have poor dental health it would be wise to have all of your teeth examined clinically and radio graphically to rule out infections before you end up with another abscess. Dental xrays are essential as they will help determine the health of your teeth and your jaw bone. Infected teeth can cause systemic (of the body) infections especially in someone whose dental and medical health is compromised.

I would not recommend that you solely rely on salt water rinses or any other oral or topical substance to take care of your dental concerns because your dental health is an integral aspect of your overall health and it is not wise to mask pain or the symptoms of dental infection with self prescribed topical applications.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please check in with us when you can.

thank you for answers.

My sinus pain seems to be down but still have weird sensations in neck and collarbone area. Also gums near extraction site seem white. Is this normal?

I am starting to wonder if antibiotics triggered nr 18 tooth on the bottom to act up and this is what gives me jaw pain and neck pain and radiates to collarbone.. not all the time but occasionally. I put all my money to extract the other tooth that now I need to see what to do with this one. I know I need to get it out but I cant recall right now do I have root canal done there. My dentist did xray of one tooth only because of my funds.

My dentist is regular dentist and has his own business but he actually has doctorate in dental surgery. Does that count? I remember when he checked sinuses he did a nose test on me to make sure I don't have hole.

I still have really high anxciety and I am sure many issues are elevated because of this. I am just so scared that something is terribly wrong. Most I am worried about is that radiating pain in my lower jaw and neck.

I am familiar with oregano oil but can you take it internally? I know tea tree oil you cant. I also have heard about colloidial silver but have no idea how to use it.

Rintsike,

Please do not use oregano oil, colloidal silver or anything else until the tooth problem has been diagnosed and dental treatment has been done. Neither of those things or any other herb or remedy will cure an infected tooth. Oral infections are not something to ignore or self treat because the infection can spread through your blood stream to other areas of the body. It is important to know that an infected tooth will generally be brewing for quite some time, maybe even years, before you have symptoms. So the symptoms are a "latent" clue that something is wrong. Please do not try to self treat this problem.

I understand that finances are an issue for you however your health is important and a tooth infection can make you very sick. The fact that you have poor dental health and diabetes makes you more susceptible to tooth infections. Root canaled teeth are chronically infected so it is irrelevant of whether the teeth are root canaled or not.

A general dentist with the credentials DDS is a doctor of dental surgery. This is not a surgical degree it is just a degree in general dentistry from a school that gives the DDS credential rather than a DMD, doctor of dental medicine. Both degrees have the same education, just different schools. An oral surgeon would also have either of those degrees AND also an oral surgery license indicating he has had extensive education in oral surgery.

It is not normal to have white gums near the extraction site. This could be infection, plaque/food debris build up, or tissue sloughing off. The site and lower tooth need to be clinically and radio graphically evaluated.

I know your anxiety is through the roof about all of this and the financial aspect adds to that. However, we can usually find a way to push forward when we have to and I urge you to make an appointment to see an oral surgeon for proper evaluation before things get worse and you end up with another emergency situation.

I wish you well and hope you will seek the care you deserve.
