Default Tooth abscess even after root canal

Hello,

4 months ago, my tooth (molar) started hurting, the doctor decided to do a deep filling but that sure didn't help much, 2 weeks ago it started hurting more and more so I went to a dentist and she decided to do a root canal operation (the appointment was set to next week) on that day the tooth started to swell, i went to her the next day and she gave me antibiotics (10 tabs) and a rinse medicine, the abscess stopped from growing and started to decrease very slowly, when the day of the operation came, she popped area on the gum infection area, blood and pus came out and she started the root canal operation, she said the root canal operation is successful and I should be fine, now it's the 2nd day after the operation and after completing the antibiotics course, the abscess has decreased drastically but still around the tooth area, my tooth doesn't hurt anymore but I'm worried about the abscess, is it normal to take time to go away, because my dentist said if it doesn't go away she'll have to extract the tooth and I don't want to extract it! should I just wait a week for it to go away or is that dangerous and it may lead to a worse situation?

Thank you
