Default Molar extraction advice?

Hello... I had my bottom left molar extracted 2 weeks ago. The tooth had gotten a root canal done 3 years ago. I had been having issues with it ever since. After Christmas I noticed a tiny white pimple on my gum right under this tooth. When I went to the dentist (a new one, not the one who did the root canal, because I moved out of state) he did an xray and said that he was surprised the last dentist did not see that the root was fractured. So he did an extraction. It took a little while, it did not come out all at once and he mentioned he was "digging the root out". The bleeding stopped by that evening, I had no pain and no need for any pain meds. It was just sore for the next few days. What is worrying me right now is if what I am experiencing is normal. The extraction looks OK, but the side of the socket (the ridge of the gum) looks "puffy" and it looks like there is a bump on it. No pain, but the area is tender/sore. Is this a sign of infection? I did not think the extraction would still be sore after 2 weeks and 2 days. And I don't know what puffy gum is or the bump or if that is all part of the healing process?
