I took out my wisdom teeth on the 4th of March. The surgery took one hour as I had to take out all wisdom teeth. Drilling of the bone was necessary on all four sides. And one tooth had to be cut in half to be extracted. The surgery, however, was pain free due to anaesthesia.
Shortly after the surgery, I went home and had bleeding for the next hours. I took ibuprofen which managed the pain for the most part for the next week. I was also taking penicillin as prescribed. I was told my healing process is longer than usual because blood clotting was more difficult for my body (oral surgeon had told me that my blood is thin). I occasionally bled during the healing process (twice) and the latest was one week after the surgery. I went in for multiple check ins. They kept telling me the extraction sites look good and I shouldn't worry. Then I was given chlorohexamed to rinse for the next five days. I had the stitches taken out 8 days after the operation. I was also given bromelain because of extreme swelling that I had. The swelling was a lot (more than I've ever seen on anyone) and I had bruising under my eyes, and on my neck and chest. However, two weeks after the surgery, I started feeling normal as I could eat everything. I was still cleaning my mouth carefully. But the swelling never went away completely and I had an odd taste in my mouth often and still couldn't open my mouth completely, but I was improving by the day. It wasn't until Thursday the 28th, when I woke up and I had felt that the swelling finally disappeared. I was so excited, only to have my right side swell up during the night time on Friday the 29th. On Saturday the 30th, the swelling got even bigger. And it became difficult for me to eat. Tonight, I woke up because of the pain on the side that's swelling and now I have a feeling in the back of my head that I'm getting ill as I'm feeling a bit colder than usual and feel like my joints are hurting a little. I haven't developed a fever, as of now but wouldn't be surprised if I do. Unfortunately, I cannot go back to the oral surgeon until tomorrow but I'm really worried because I've been swollen since Friday. What happens next? Should I be extremely worried? Is it likely that I have an infection? Do I need to go to the ER? |

IMO, as a person, and not a person of the medical field, I think you need to see a different doctor and get a second opinion. I would be very specific about choosing one that is well known in the field and highly appreciated for their expertise. If there is an issue, seeing the same doctor who may have made a mistake would, imo, be a mistake.

I went yesterday, and the surgeon made an incision and decided that the infection is deeper and requires a surgery. I am on antibiotics again now with daily appointments to visit the clinic and get minor cleaning before we commence with the surgery. I have an appointment today, in which they will detail what the surgery will be about. I am worried, but I am hoping this will all pass in 2-3 weeks more. |
