Default Jaw Alignment & hard lump issue after wisdom tooth extraction

I just had 3 wisdom teeth removed last Tuesday...so I am a week out of surgery today.

I am having a couple "complications" post surgery and interested to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

The first issue is a hard lump along my jaw line. I noticed it on Sunday and had an appt yesterday at the oral surgeon to check it out. I did not see the oral surgeon but instead their aftercare nurse. She said she thought it was old blood collected/pooled and would eventually dissipate. She was able to flush some old blood out of the extraction site that was periodically seeping out prior to my appointment. None of the fluid appeared to be infected at all. I don't have any fever and the extraction site showed healthy, pink tissue. Has anyone else had a very hard lump that ultimately self resolved in time?

Secondarily, my bottom jaw is visibly shifted to the left...the side of the hard lump. Subsequently my molars aren't meeting properly when I close my mouth. This was the site of my most impacted wisdom tooth so I am sure the work in that site was the most invasive. I also brought this issue up to the nurse and she said that there can be a lot of force involved in the extraction and I would have to give it more time to see if the jaw migrates back as more healing occurs.

I scheduled an additional followup next week to revisit both issues....

Has anyone experienced these issues? I am particularly concerned about the shifted alignment of my jaw as I am concerned the solution could be a break and rest that would require a wired jaw for weeks.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Hi! I don't log in here much but saw this and thought I'd reply. I am sort of dealing with the same thing with the hard lump.... my story though starts with a tooth that was chipped when I was a kid, it was root canalled and crowned, eventually had an apicoectomy, then it was extracted. I had an implant put in that didn't take, and then a second implant that did, but I did notice after extraction this hard lump that formed in the gum below the tooth. The oral surgeon insisted it was just "extra bone" and nothing to worry about. I did see another oral surgeon for a second opinion and he acknowledged that the bump was at not normal at least and referred me for a cat scan to see if the bump was osteomyelitis. In my case the cat scan came back inconclusive because the bump was what they called "Bone sclerosis" but there was no inflammation. So basically was told unless I am in pain to just leave it be.... I do get pain every now and then and I have anxiety over this that it is a chronic infection just sitting in my mouth....plus all of the thousands of dollars I wasted in the implant process.... I guess bottom line here is just make sure your dentist or surgeon doesn't brush it off and push for a cat scan to see whats going on.
