hello... I'm looking for a biological oral surgeon. I live in Central New York State (Syracuse). I'm willing to travel to places in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland or DC area. Does anyone know of one in these areas?
I found a Dr. Ernie Topolnycky in Buffalo,NY but his listed phone number is out of service. Would anyone know how to reach him? Thanks, Karen |

Hi Karen,
Biological dentists are becoming more popular but are still difficult to find. They frequently don't advertise themseves as Biological for fear of rejection by their peers (those who practice traditional dentistry) as well as the ADA. Some seem to almost disappear when in fact they were forced out of practice because the stress of constant scrutiny becomes too much to deal with. I know of 5 dentists who this has happened to in the last 3 years. There is an organization called International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology (IAOMT) that does have some members who are Biological. Here is a link to some dentists in NY. You would have to call to see if they perform extractions and/or for a referral to a Biological Oral Surgeon. They have a provider search on their main web site www.iaomt.org http://www.iaomt.org/patients/result...rov=New%20York Let us know how you make out! Bryanna |

I used to go to Dr. Topolnycky in the 90's, but left the area. I returned this year, and tried to look him up, to no avail. A quick google search found the following:
http://www.oms.nysed.gov/press/0204cases.htm Looks like he was convicted of bank fraud, and was suspended. -pete |

Pete,
Bank Fraud?? I didn't see that stated in your link. The statute states Professional Misconduct. Which is basically a violation of ethical standards that are controlled by a specific profession. It doesn't say what the violation was exactly. So it may have been something that they had no real evidence to convict him on. Bryanna |

yes, I agree with you, Bryanna, on this.....
there is absolutely nothing that I could find there that connects this dentist with bank fraud and yes, that which is recorded next to his name is vague enough for it to leave a large opening for uncertainty as to just what this is about

thanks for the info. I already checked the iamt website with no luck. i have a simple question I need an oral surgeon so I need to find a DMD. Right?
It's unfortunate that biological dentists are being harassed by the dental profession. just about everyone I found in my research have been suspended. Dr. Mark Breiner who practices biological dentistry referred me to an oral surgeon, Dr Szilagyi in Conn. He practices conventional dentistry yet does cavitation surgery for Dr. Breiner. Is anyone familiar with either of these two dentists? Karen p.s. Pete... please let me know if you ever manage to reach Dr Topnycki. |

Karen,
Dental credentials can be either DDS or DMD. They mean the same thing, just graduated from different schools. Are you seeking an extraction and/or cavitational surgery? I will ask the dentist that I work for who he would recommend in your neck of the woods or if he knows of Szilagyi. But I won't see him until thursday. Are you in an urgent situation? Bryanna |

unfortunately I have to inform you that Dr. Topolnycky passed in August of 2004. So he won't be able to assist you in the procedures you needed help with. He was one hell of a dentist though. I hope you found someone who could take care of you
