Default extraction problems

i had a tooth extracted a month ago,and 2 weeks later was treated for dry socket ,it was filled with the horrible tasting stuff and i was given antibiotics
now 2 weeks later i have a wire thread like cotton coming through the gum just above where the tooth was extracted, does anyone have any idea what this is as its driving me crazy hope you can help

Hi teresa,

Well a couple of things come to mind....

It could be a piece of gauze from the medicated pad that was placed in the socket. Or a leftover suture.

If the tooth removed had been root canaled, it could be a piece of the gutta percha material or a paper point that was used during that procedure that embedded in the tissue and was not removed at the time of the extraction.

If it does not remove itself easily while rinsing with warm salt water, then it would be best to see your dentist to determine what it is.

By the way...... how is the surgical area feeling since you were treated for the dry socket?
