I have an interesting development Byranna.
I had a hard time after the first surgery for the impants where they took out the old root canaled teeth and put in the bone graft. After the surgery I had what I thought were two sinus like infections. And just felt generally unwell. I developed alot of jaw pain on the opposite side of the mouth and my left eye would just cry and we thought it was a blocked tear duct. Well everything blew up even more in January with facial weakness and numbness around the left maxillary sinus. Seems I have a zoster infection or also called Ramsay Hunt syndrome. I am on an anti-viral and improcing the the implant dentist said he sometims sees this. Leave it to me to be the exception to the rule. |

Hi Shelley,
Oh boy. You have been through the ringer! I read on another post that you recently had eye surgery on both eyes (??) to relieve the pressure in the duct? What is the long term prognosis of that surgical intervention? Will the ducts be clear for good? Ramsay Hunt syndrome is the result of an infected facial or cranial nerve. Where do they think the infection originally came from? Was all of the dental surgery done on the opposite side of the face? Oh Shell...... this is the pits! How are you feeling now? Bryanna :-(( Quote:

That just sucks. Jim went for his eval last week and they told him they put in bottom implants but not upper. If they do it's rare. He sees the oral sugeon in May.
Anyway, I hope things get better for you and fast! I wont tell Jim this. lol

Hi Sandy,
Dental implants in the upper arch are not rare at all. They are done successfully all of the time. Does your husband have a particular reason why he is not a candidate for upper implants? Just curious.... Bryanna |

Sorry for the hijack Shelly! I'll start a new thread when we see the oral surgeon.

Thanks for the concern. THey are still trying to figure it all out. They believe I had a zoster outbreak ie the Ramsay Hunt and it was pretty much left sided which is opposite side of the implant surgery. The intersting thing however is not far after the dental surgery that left eye started to constantly cry. It was infected and I let it go too long. Actually when they opened up the tears ducts both were blocked. They believe that the bacteria is aclled Actinomycosis which from alot of things I am reading exist in our mouths but can become aggressive after a dental surgery or from longstanding root canals chich I have a lot of. Do you have any experience with this bacteria? Can bone grafts that are used be infected with anything? How do they prep them? Are they steralized? Since I still have constant headaches evenafter the surgery I am wondering if ther is other bone infected in the skull since I am having some cranial nerve involvement. Any insight is appreciated. |
