Default Dry socket ??

Hello all,....Hope all had great holiday weekend.

I had 2 teeth pulled 6 days ago, and tonight the pain is just throbbing. Also my throat is swollen and my ear hurts. I thought i had a problem on Thursday and went to see dentist and at that time he said all was fine, That night i lost blood clot from site, and i can see bone on outside of jaw as well.

I have other medical conditions and am so tired of all of this. I have no clue what is in store, but seeing as it is Sunday night it is not worth calling doc. I have appt tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 so i will call and see if i can get in earlier.

Are there any home remedies??? I appreciate your reading and any thoughts.

** i did also call on Friday morning when i woke up to tell them about loss of clot, but they had just turned service on, and left early for holiday week-end.
Also pain meds really don't touch tooth pain, errrrr

Ouch

I don't have any home remedies; I can just say... reading what you've been feeling, I can just about feel the pain myself.

Please post as soon as you either speak with or see your doctor. Likely, what you learn will also help others who go through similar.

I honestly haven't any idea what your doc might suggest. I know that when I've nerve pain (in my face and dental related), ice packs help. Huge caveat: Mine isn't related to extraction(s).

That you're seeing bone, it suggests to me, you've made the best decisions so far. I hope they're able to see you earlier than in the afternoon. The less suffering you feel, the better.

Hi there ouch. I did a quick search and found quite a few past references to dry sockets here in this forum. Some give more information than others, but any that Bryanna has replied to are probably the ones to check first.

Here's a link to all the threads so you can read through them yourself : http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/se...ery=dry+socket

Default thanks for reading

thanks for support.
Well went to doc's this am, they fit me in, and also said i should have called them over week-end. Could of should of would of.......

He gave injections and them cleaned out and packed with some meds, something very clove tasting. I love the relief just from injection. I have to go back on Wednesday to re pack again, so hopefully i am on the right track and let the healing begin.

Another disappointment in all this is that it slows down getting a either a implant or bridge, but gotta heal first.

So thanks for reply's and support.

The good news is: You got in earlier; the fantastic news, treatment is happening. Let the healing commence .

Ouch,

I'm so very sorry I did not reply sooner to you.... I was away for a few days and without a computer so I just got your message now.

By now you have been back to the dentist for a second look......and a repacking of the site. How is it feeling??

The clove taste you described is actually that ....... cloves. A piece of impregnated gauze with a mixture of medicaments is placed in the socket to help heal the surgical site.

If I had been able to write to you sooner I would have told you to call the dentist and go in as an emergency because your symptoms were that of a dry socket. Again, I am so sorry I did not get to you sooner :-(( There is not much you can do to remedy the problem when this occurs other than to see the dentist for proper treatment.

You made mention of implants.... just a word of caution......people with blood clotting issues along with other health problems are generally not good candidates for dental implants. The placement of an implant requires drilling into the jawbone which can put someone like yourself at risk for developing blood clots. Also, the surgical sites that have developed dry sockets after an extraction have a difficult time healing completely normal. Meaning the bone may not ever be healthy enough for the placement of a dental implant. So between that combination of things, perhaps a bridge would be a better long term option for you........??

Ouch...... again my apologies for not being available when you sought help. I feel awful about that........ hopefully you are feeling much better by now!

Bryanna

Default Anorher question

Well today is day 9 since having 2 teeth extracted. Teeth # 3 and #30. Number #30 ended up with dry socket, not good, and very painful. I went and had it packed with meds and it felt better. They also refiled antibiotics and pain meds. Swelling and bruising has gone done a lot, however pain is still bad on dry socket tooth. He has told me i can stop antibiotic as the infection is gone, and just need to do the days. He told me while it might look ok at this time it does not always feel well. Tomorrow is friday and I am still dealing with pain on this tooth, .....I have not slept through the night yet either, I wake up having to take pain meds every night, last night was 3;14 (gotta love digital alarm clocks)...........anyways i have 3 pain pills left and i am once again heading into week end, do i call or let it go???????? that is the question.
How long does this take???

I so appreciate all your help and all those that read and respond. It is so nice to have a sounding board. What is it after I pay them $1300.00 that i feel like i am a pain in the butt???

Bryanna also thanks for your help, and hope you enjoyed your time away, always good to get away.

Thanks,
Ouch.
