Just needed to vent, I am not in pain YET but I just know this will hurt like the devil when it kicks in. Why does enamel get thin? THe entire cap of the tooth, the bottom and three sides fell off, while I was eating and I am darn lucky to have discovered it right away so I didn't break more off. I am so upset, I just had one yanked in May and now I need to have this one yanked. Depressing.
So how bad are dentures? *sigh*

I assume you mean that the enamel fell off of a capped tooth; or am I reading your post wrong? If it's a capped tooth, I imagine it depends on how old the cap is and stuff like that. Just guessing.
Dentures probably aren't that bad once you get used to them. JMO

I meant that the bottom of it fell off all attached to the sides enamel, not that it was a cap, fell off like one though...I hope I can get used to them when the time comes because that is where I am heading at this rate.

Oh it will, just take awhile to get in to get it yanked is all. Just upset about it is all. And needed to vent. Never had one break off like this before. I hope he can extract it without too much drilling, I have a feeling it's going to be the hardest extraction yet.

Hi Pamster,
Sorry to hear of yet another tooth problem :-( A tooth can break off like this for many reasons. Decay or a large filling will cause a tooth to break. Sometimes root canaled teeth break off like this because they are weak from having no vitality. Or the tooth could have been fractured and you just didn't know it. If you are not having any pain it may be because the nerve in the tooth has died which means there is an infection brewing in the tooth. I know you plan on taking care of this.... but please do not wait too long because once the infection starts to spread it will become painful. Please let us know how you are doing.... ;-) Bryanna Quote:

I am so upset, the soonest they can get me in is Sept. 1st! I am on the cancellation list and they told me to call like every week so I am hoping that they can fit me in sooner. Two months is a LONG time to wait. I'll keep posting as things happen. Thanks for your reply Bryanna, I wish I had an appt like for next week and not two months from now.

Hi Pamster,
September 1st???!! That's crazy! Perhaps your available time in your schedule does not fit into their open appointment time slots? I cannot imagine them being booked solidly for the next 2 months...... they have to leave time in the schedule for emergencies and such. I would never make someone with a broken tooth wait 2 months for a dental appointment. Is there another office you could go to? If not, then I guess you will have to keep calling them every week as you said. It doesn't sound like you can rely on them to call you with an opening :-( I know this will be a challenge but in the meantime try to avoid eating on that tooth, keep it clean with your toothbrush and rinse with warm salt water every day to keep down the plaque. If it should break off more, don't panic because it will not make it any more difficult to remove. That little piece of tooth currently remaining is not a factor in the removal of the tooth. I hope you can get in sooner..... keep bugging them! Bryanna ~'.'~ I am so upset, the soonest they can get me in is Sept. 1st! SO still no cancellations. I am hoping that things get to where someone at least calls in and I get their spot. So far no go. At least it's not infected yet, but that can change so very quickly.

Hi Pamster,
Geez...... I cannot understand how they won't fit you in?? That's really terrible. In the meantime, rinse with warm salt water several times a day until you get in to the dentist as this will help to keep the bacteria down. This could help prevent it from getting badly infected. So sorry you are dealing with this.... it's really not right! Keep in touch.. Bryanna ~'.'~ |
