Default I’m sick. Do you hear me? I’m sick.

I’M SICK. DO YOU HEAR ME? I’M SICK.

You may not understand the French language, but if you have suffered from depression, you will understand this song. This woman had an emotional break-down; was considered by some to have been suicidal. And then, she sang this: “I am sick, I am completely sick.” What had been hidden, she revealed in song. This is honesty on stage. This is art giving sense to life. This is redemption. This is a woman who confronted depression and survived, and went public with it. This is her first time back on stage. Thus, the standing ovation. Witness a victory of the human spirit: Lara Fabian singing “Je suis malade”.

(Je suis malade = I am sick.
Complètement malade = completely sick)

I no longer dream
I no longer smoke
I have no more stories
I am dirty without you
I am ugly without you
Like an orphan in a dorm
I have no desire
To live my life
My life stops when you leave
I have no life
And even my bed
Becomes a train station platform

I am sick
completely sick
Like when my mother went out in the evening
And she left me alone, with my despair
I am sick
perfectly sick
You arrive I never know when
You go I never know where
And it will soon be two years
As if you would care ...

Like a rock
As a sin
I am attached to you
I'm tired, I'm exhausted
I pretend to be happy
I drink every night
And all whiskey
to me tastes the same
And all ships
fly your flag
I do not know where to go
You're everywhere ...

I am sick
completely sick
I shed my blood
And I'm like a dead bird

I am sick
Completely sick
You have deprived me of all my songs
You've emptied all my words
Yet I had talent
Before your skin ...

This is killing me
And if it continues
I'll die alone
Near my radio
As an idiot kid
Listening to my own voice sing:

I am sick
completely sick
Like when my mother went out in the evening
And she left me alone, with my despair
I am sick
That's it ... I am sick
You deprived me of all my songs
You emptied all my words
And my heart is completely sick
Surrounded by barricades
Do you hear me?
I'm sick.

WOW -- That's pretty dark! But I've felt exactly like that before. I don't like the feeling I get when I read that. It brings back some bad feelings.

Sorry if it upsets anybody; the content is dark. But when you hear her sing it, revealing private pain to the public... I feel like she is speaking for many of us, when other people do not understand, that in some way we are sick, we are battling an illness. In a sense, she stopped covering it up, and "came out of the closet".

I appreciate this post --and u tube video was great ---what a amazing voice!! You can hear the despair and the pain in her voice. You are so right like she fighting to battle her demons of despair. Reminds me of another french song(if you go away) I think Cyndi Lauper did a remake of the song If You Go Away---you can really hear the angst in her voice and despair--its almost haunting but in a good way-- from the raw honesty and emotion of it. Thanks again for posting this video with the lyrics.
