Default Suffocating!

I get so depressed sometimes and feel so anxious, that it literally feels like I'm suffocating. This can't be normal, right? I'm trying to get over my depression but it feels like for every step forward I make, something comes along and I fall two steps back. I don't know what to do...

Isn't or can't anxiety a separate condition? or a panic attack maybe?
Maybe you need a new evaluation or a new med if you are on any now?

Smile Hi Issyme!

It could be that you are suffering from anxiety or panic attacks. They come on suddenly and last anywhere from half an hour to several hours. They make it hard to breathe, and give you a sense that something terrible is about to happen. And they can scare you pretty badly.

I've suffered from the off an on over the past few years, and the only two meds I have found that works quickly for these attacks is Ativan and Xanax. I do make sure to use them as scarcely as I can, so I won't build up any resitance to them and require a higher dose. But I've found that by being able to control my anxiety attacks, my depression isn't nearly as bad, and now I don't take anti-depressants at all. It's something you might want to discuss with your doctor.

I hope you've had a good day today, and will have another good one tomorrow! You take care of yourself, okay?

Thanks for all of your ideas. Now I just have to convince myself to actually go to a doctor's. I've always kind of handled things on my own & have never spoken about my problems, until now that is. It's kind of nice to be anonomynous and not feel like there is people constantly judging you...

Hang in there. I know that depression can be tough, but there will be a day you will be happy again! Wishing you luck and lots of hugs!
