I have been on Prozac for 14 years. It has always worked well for me. I am currently on 60 mg a day, but have been on doses ranging from 20 to 80mg in the past. Over the last six months, my depression has become very severe. I feel like the prozac is not working anymore, is this possible? Does anyone else have any experience with this?

I've never taken Prozac but many years ago I was taking Zoloft for a while. I had the same problem with that. It seemed to hit a wall and I was on a pretty high dose at that time.

You should go talk to your doctor. 14 years is a long long time to be on the same medication and if you've noticed mood changes then it's imperative you have this all checked out.

Whatever you do, don't stop taking the Prozac cold-turkey.

It could be a simple thing like changing the dose again or actually changing the SSRI.

Thanks for your good advice. I did go into see the doctor today, and he did just what you mentioned, he reduced the amount of Prozac that I am taking to see if we can re-sensitize my receptors. I am hoping that this will help, but I also think that changing to a different SSRI might be good as well. I will have to ask him about this.

Hi, I was on prozac in the past and I noticed the same happen to me. It just stopped working. I'm sure it's great for some, but for me, it didn't work very long. Good luck

I was on Zoloft for years and suddenly it stopped working...actually tried Prozac and went 1/2 bonkers, not for me I guess!!
