Default Fighting Depression According to Hazelton

Although our family is very fortunate not to suffer from addiction problems, I get this related newsletter simply because I find it filled with powerful truths. Today's topic had to do with depression relief ideas:

Today's thought from Hazelden is:

Today I will do one thing more than I think I can do.

If I'm too tired or depressed to get out of bed, I will not only get up but also take a shower.

If I don't have the energy to go to work, I will get dressed and drive to the parking lot of my job.

If I just can't face the world, I will walk to the end of the street and back.

I will reach a little further than whatever I believe my limitations to be. Usually, when I take that little extra step, it seems easier than I thought it would, and I feel better too.

It is so true... that can help serveral times...
Escept when it is really impossible (dont know why) to get out of bed !!! maybe, we have to act before we are in the "bottom" and cant control the depression...

I really like that.

I tend to have to force myself to do certain activities due to anxiety rather than depression though. Apart from the staying in bed one. I don't have that happening. I wish though. I tend to be awake before or as the sun starts to rise.

If I'm afraid of the traffic as I am some days, instead of staying away from it altogether, I force myself to drive even if it's just up the beach or down the shop. If I'm afraid of heights, I force myself to go a little higher... etc. Some days I do know my limitations though and it's not as easy to force myself out of my comfort zone as it used to be.

I think that's really good advice. I'm not sure what Hazelden is or what it's got to do with addiction, (OK, I just looked it up.) but I think those suggestions could be adapted for many different situations we face in our lives... all of us.

A good book to read (just my suggestion of course) is "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway" by Susan Jeffers. It could be very useful to help with depression as well as anxiety I'm sure.

Yep...for the most part...the truth is...
it's very hard to be depressed when one takes an action step. A movement forward. Action and sadness...even depression...just aren't compatible.

The Jeffers book is out of this world!!!!!!
You can even buy it used at amazon...well worth the money!
