What is Wilson’s (Thyroid) Syndrome, in a nutshell? First, it is a collection of hypothyroid symptoms. Among the symptoms a person can have are fatigue, easy weight gain, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, feeling cold when others aren’t and/or dry, itchy, scaly skin. But you could have 5 or 8 or 14 other symptoms instead. There are 40 possible symptoms in all and most people are somewhat unique in which they have. Typically, a person has between 5 and 15 symptoms. But that doesn’t mean you could have just any symptoms. The list is quite specific. And if you’ve got them, they are chronic, they don’t just come and go. Hypothyroidism is like that.

The second characteristic of Wilson’s Thyroid Syndrome is that if you take a test for conventional hypothyroidism, the test comes back normal - meaning of course to your doctor that you do not have hypothyroidism

The third hallmark sign of Wilson's is a chronic low body temperature. You might not notice it, but when you take your temperature, it is apparent.

Wilson’s is not widely known, but several thousand physicians who treat it say as many as 20% of adults likely have it, most of them women. The chief cause is significant physical or emotional stress, like a divorce, a death in the family, loosing ones job, childbirth, major illness etc.. The symptoms can last for years. My sister-in-law from whom I learned about this, had symptoms for 20 years, symptoms which came on after the birth of her last child. The good news is that is the condition, for most people, is completely treatable.

Here is the website I found very helpful: http://www.WilsonsSyndromeInstitute.org

If you think this might apply to you, I would like nothing better than to hear from you. I have Wilson's.

Default

Thank you soooo much Diogenes!
Spoke w/ my doctor on the phone today and he said that he believes I have this controversial dx.
Here are the symptoms:
Energy
•fatigue
•low motivation
•needing to sleep during the day
•excessively tired after eating
Cognitive/brain

•decreased memory
•decreased concentration
•insomnia
•lightheadedness
•poor coordination
•ringing in the ears

•changes in skin pigmentation
•premature gray hair
•dry eyes/blurred vision
•hives
Mood
•irritability
•anxiety
•panic attacks
•depression
•decreased sex drive
•low self esteem
Body Temperature
•low avg. daytime body temperature
•heat/cold intolerance
•flushing
•cold hands and feet, turn blue?
•feeling cold when others don’t
Periods (women)
•PMS
•irregular periods
•severe menstrual cramps

•infertility

(I have about 9 of these symptoms; with easy weight gain the most prevalant, along w/ weird thyroid test results)

Doc said that my T4 was normal and my T3 was not. He thought I was having some sort of autoimmune reaction and that it would involve taking Cytomel in a specialized way and that I would need a specialist. Unfortunately, the nearest specialist is four hours away.

Some vitamins/herbs I have read about that might help w/ this condition include: Rhodiola Rosea, Guggul, Zinc, Selenium and L Tyrosine.

If anyone has this, knows of someone who has this or knows some information about this....please post or pm.
