Default Questin about UTI's

Now I am thoroughly confused.

Here is what happened.

Last week (7 days to be exact), I started getting the pressure down there. I pee just fine, no burning, JUST THAT DARN PRESSURE. I have not had any UTI's for over 10 years. About 15 or so years ago, I used to get what i thought were bladder spasms (don't know what else to call them), just the urgency. No burning, no problem peeing, just that god awful feeling "down there".

I was scoped, scanned, went to this uro, that uro, my gyno, etc. EVERYTHING WAS NEGATIVE. Finally my primary care guy prescribed SOMA, a muscle relaxer, only I never ever took it. I took it home from the drug store, went to take a shower, put the bottle of SOMA on the counter thinking I would take it before I went to bed, but the minute I got under the hot shower, every thing in my body relaxed. It was like someone gave me a shot of SOMETHING. I felt great. i said "oh thank god", and I never had to take the pill.

I was under MUCH STRESS AT THE TIME, over my son's behavior.

So as the years went by, every time I had to deal with my son or he would call, my body would spasm, various parts of my body. It ALWAYS coincided with a phone call from him and any ensuing conversations would result in my body getting spasms. I'm not stupid, I can read between the lines, my body is reacting to my son. I get this.

So for the past few weeks, I had been anticipating Easter and Mother's Day (two holidays which are NOT pleasant for me). Bam!!! I get the pressure down there. So I go out and buy this AZO triple test kit. I take a test, I compare it to the chart, and I tested negative for nitrites and a very slight positive for the leukocytes which I understand are the presence of white blood cells to fight infection.

And all I had was the pressure (or whatever it's called), down there. No burning, I peed just fine.

I did not want to go to the doctor for antibiotics because I know what antibiotics do and I haven't been on any of them for YEARS. I eat my sprouts, And I dink water (no soda at all, no juice, etc.). Just a morning cup of coffee and a cup of decaf after dinner.

So, after reading the test, I go on the internet and I typed in "what did woman do for UTI's before the invention of Antibiotics?"

Well, the info that came up was astounding. I knew all about the cranberry juice thing, but I'm diabetic can't do that.

So I went to GNC and bought Silver-biotics, and I've been taking it for 7 days, 3 times a day, as well as D-Mannose (look that up and you'll see how it affects the e-coli in the urinary tract).

And I conferred with Alan's nurse and she said "Drink water until it comes out of your ears". That's what I've been doing --literally.

So it's been 7 days, and I felt much much better. The urgency down there has diminished greatly. So I told myself "you must have had a very slight infection, doing the silver biotics and d-mannose has fixed it, keep drinking the water, blah blah

Well, since there are two more test strips in the kit, this morning I took another test. I did not put the strip in the urine stream. I went to my drawer, took out an empty small cup and I just peed in it. I DID NOT WASH THE CUP, OR CLEAN IT. I figured it had already been washed and it was in my drawer next to all the other cups and bowls, etc.

Well, imagine my surprise when I dipped the test strip and it came a bright pinkish purple. I said "what the heck, last week it was barely a blush, and now it's pinkish purple??"

Since Alan was going to the doctor for VNG test, I tagged along and I told the nurse (I brought the test strip so she could see). She said 'let's do a urine test".

It came out negative. I said "how is this negative, when my test strip is positivie".? She said that she is sending it out to the lab anyway., but it was definitely negative. She had given me a sealed sterile cup to pee in.

I then came home and remembered that I did not wash the cup before I peed into it and used the AZO test strip. It had given me the option of peeing directly on the test strip or peeing into a container and dipping the test strip into it. I just read where microbes on anything that is not sterile can affect the test.

Do you think that might be the reason why I had a positive in my house, but a negative in the doctor's office?

I am not complaining, in my case, the silver biotics and the dmannose and the drinking of lots of water to flush out the bacteria, well it worked. I got a negative in my doctor's office.

I'm just very curious and I welcome any advice here.

Thanks much

Melody

I think some residue was probably in the cup you used and affected the result.

I've used cranberry , herb & Azo tabs when I had UTI.
{luckily not very often }
Plus lots of water or water with a bit of lemon in it.
I don't get the burning either- just the the urge to go...often

When I got home, I went on the internet and I read "And do NOT read the strip if it's ten minutes past when you took the test"

I took the strip to the doctor's office 4 hours after I took the test. So that dark color was not even the correct result.

But I know now that I should have used a clean cup to do the test.

How dumb am I?

Anyway, the girl said I had no infection and I want to go along with her. But this sciactica!!!! I haven't had an attack like this in 15 years.

But then again, the weather hasn't gone from over 85 to 40 (in 24 hours no less), IN A LONG TIME.

Holy Cow, what that did to my body.

Thanks very much for the input Jo

Take care,

Happy Computing!!!
