Default Accord program is really not over!!

Wow, got a call last night from the person who ran the ACCORD program out of Cornell in NYC. I did it for 4 years and it ended last year.

They had informed me back then that their MIGHT be a continuation and follow-up program for all members who participated.

Well, they are in discussions to form a new follow-up program titled ACCORDION

And the ACCORDION program (well, that's how it sounds, it might actually be ACCORD-ION, I have no idea), it will be telephone visits and clinic visits which will consist of EKGs, exams, blood pressure, blood tests, etc.

I told her "that's fine by me, let me know". No official date yet, but when they do it, I'll be there.

And it's a 4 year follow up program. They won't be supply any meds because the pharmaceutical companies which provided the meds for the ACCORD program are no longer funding medications.

But, there will be testing, and exams so at least we can find out how we are doing, and by doing that, we can help other diabetics prevent heart disease.

Hopefully I'll continue to be med free, but one never knows. I discussed my diet with the Accord person last night and if I can continue to maintain better control (remember there is NO cure for diabetes, it's just management of it, but hopefully BETTER AND TIGHTER management through what I put in m mouth), well, all I can do is continue.

Might even lose a few pounds in the long run.

All I can say is thank goodness I discovered Bison. It's a good source of protein. And I just eat the correct portion.

I should have really done this 30 years ago but my brain was not ready for the dietary change.

So, just wanted to share.

Melody
