Hi. My mom is diabetic and anemic, plus high blood pressure and kidney pbs. She used to take "glucophage" but her doctor stopped it. Now she's on "insuline flexpen". Her kidney is not functionning well, so the Dr prescribed her "eprex 2000" every other day. She has high ferritin and is also anemic. Could you advice what type of iron should she take?
Thanks. |

The doctor should make the decisions for your mom.
Age is a factor as well. Some older patients require other means for anemia improvement other than iron. New studies show using ProCrit for them works better. Iron should always be monitored by blood tests when given to patients. Doses, etc should be determined by the doctor.

I am sorry, but this question is highly specialized and cannot be answered
on a board like this. I think you should direct this question to your mother's physician. Typically on the tests themselves are interpretations, as not all doctors know the finer points of hematology. So obtain a copy of that, and your answer may be there. Good luck.
