Default Terrible leg pain

I have had Type 2 Diabetes for over two years now. It is treated with Byetta. Recently I have been having terrible leg pain. It started in my thigh, just a stabing pain. I had a ultrasound done on my legs and nothing was wrong, so my doctor dismissed it. Now 6 months later the pain is worse. The worse pain is behind my left knee (also in the right but not as bad). It feels like there is a rubber band around my knee causing my leg to hurt. I sit for long periods of time at my job and I am having a hard time doing it. The pain is so bad. I have an appt on April the 11th to see a Diabetic specialist because I a sick of the general doctor putting things off. Does this sound like it could be related to the diabetes? Should I do something sooner?
I have to admit I have not been the best diabetic around.....
