Hi All!!!!
All the diet sodas either have Aspartame or Splenda. I buy the Truelemon products or the Crystal Light Pure products with Stevia. They taste just fine. I don't do carbonated anything so I don't do diet soda. I have just found out that there is a diet soda with Stevia. It's called ZEVIA. Can't get it around here but I was looking into it for my husband who drinks the Diet Rite Soda with Splenda. So here is my question. I just found this website: http://www.cspinet.org/nah/4_00/stevia.html I had never heard one negative thing about Stevia. It's from a plant, it's natural, etc. etc. Now they say don't use this either. I mean they do indicate you can use it maybe once or twice a day (a few drops). Look at all the beverages now coming out on the market. I mean what are we supposed to drink? WATER?? All the time?? I drink lots of water and I was so happy to be able to have berry taste and orange taste in the drink. I thought my beverage problem would be solved with the new beverages being made with Stevia. I cannot believe this. There is always something negative about something. Jeez!!!! Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks much

Mostly, Yes. I mostly drink water! When I want a sweet hot drink, I will sometimes drink tea with a little Stevia in it.
But, we do have some Zevia sodas in the fridge and that can be an incredible treat. "Treat" I say because these things are pricey and of course - carbonated - which is not the healthiest thing for us, but we do like to indulge, don't we ;-) My doctors have said for years that Stevia is fine. Splenda is terrible for insulin and glucose levels - bad for diabetes. And we avoid saccharin and aspartame at all costs. |

It was my understanding that all sweetening agents stimulate the release of insulin. It has to do with signaling the hypothalamus.
I think with time Stevia will be added to the list. There are just no studies on it yet. Aspartame has aspartic acid in it, which can stimulate pain receptors NMDA receptors. I don't see how a little Splenda a day-- say one or 2 packets can be harmful. Some people become soda junkies... drinking large amounts of Diet Coke, Pepsi etc. Those are the ones to worry about. The colas have high phosphate in them, specifically, and that may impact bone density. I let the bubbles lapse in any soda-- before drinking. I tend to do ginger ale or lemon/lime sodas in the summer when it is hot.

I myself LOVE the True Lemon products. If one has to drink water, than this (and I can add the new Crystal Lite Pure) so I should really say THESE, are the drinks to drink. I ordered Stevita yesterday. It's already been shipped. I got the Berry Flavor. I'll update when I get this. I hate carbonated anything so for me, this is the way to go. Melody P.S. isn't it amazing the varied opinions on how Splenda and other artificial sweetners impact the release of insulin. I hardly know what to believe any more. Pretty soon I'll read that Sprouts aren't healthy. lol

I'm waiting for the announcement that filtered water is dangerous.
I use stevia in my coffee but that's the extent of my use of it. Other than my morning coffee I drink only water.
