Default Fasting and the 5:2 diet

I have Type 2 diabetes, on Metformin for last year or so. Am considering trying the 5:2 diet (where you fast on 500/600 calories for two days per week) but wondered if anyone had experience or knowledge of the effect on blood sugar of this or any thoughts on the topic of fasting in general with diabetes.
