Default Hi dianne

I was able to to keep things under control by diet. I was diagnosed
when i was 19 and in Nursing school. 8 years ago my husband passed
away, and i had 3 children in College. So my drug of choice was food.
Stress and food added 90 lbs. Which started Diabectic 2.

Last May i hurt my foot ending up in the hospital for 6 weeks,it really
scared me.I lost 90 lbs. bettter than foot it was hard. How long were
you on the meds before the made you sick?? Avandia droppped my sugar
so low,i got sick and swollen feet. After other tries, the 1 that makes
alot of people sick Metformin worked, but the diet is so important. Do
you have a Diabectic Center in your Hospital if so i feel they can give
you more time. We all are so different,i'm so sorry you are having a hard
time. I have polyneuropathys so my problem was exercise,so i do
streching in the morning,in the afternoon i dance with my walker ok stop
lauging and yoga..I wish i could be more help but at neurotalk, there always
seems to be a answer that comes along. You are not alone. Sue

Default Some questions

Hi Dianna, first I have a few questions for you:

Are you following a low-carb diet?
Are you eating small amounts of food every 2-3 hrs?
When do you test? Before meals? 1-2 hrs after meal?
Are you eating fruit?
What are you drinking? diet sodas?
Consuming anything with aspartame or other artificial sweeteners?

Are you walking? Getting any other exercise?

Do you eat as soon as you get up? Have a snack before bed?

Did doc put you on meds right off or suggest diet/exercise control first?

I'll try to help you but I need to know your eating/testing habits for more info. I've been living with type 2 for about 10 years now. I tried Metforim, didn't work for me cause the pills made my legs hurt. I control with diet & have some tips for you after I hear back OK?

Smile thanks

thank you buttons
I was on diet at the start but the control was really bad so that is when they started me on the metforman and of course that made me so sick, then they have tryed all the other meds as well but with no results, l am on diamicron mr that does nothing for me, l was on 4 of them but with no result, now the last try was the levimir insulin and 2 diamicron mr, the levemir made me so nausea's, now she has another tablet advandiamet tryed that caused gastro ,she now wants me to try protophane, I will go and pick that up tomorrow but I am at my wits end, I am so sick of trying all these different things with no results, and allways feeling sick, I test before and 1-2 after meals, also l follow a low carb diet and also have fruit and veg very strick diet also exercise, my son has been a diabetic type 1 for 20 years but that doesn't help me, I drink diet cordial and water mostly, now and then I have zero coke, I have breakfast when I get up and also I have supper at night, I also walk everyday.I don't really have much artificial sweetner if I do it is splena.

Default Well, now I'm stumped!

Dianna, OK, you certainly know the facts of when to test & what to eat. Now I gotta wonder if you have some other condition that is causing this. Thyroid? Hormones?

Can I ask just how high your numbers are? (In US figures please). Aside from the nausea, etc from taking the different meds,do you feel OK? You mentioned PN (I think), are you taking Neurotin or other meds for that? Any kind of steroids? Blood pressure meds? Allergy meds/inhaler?

Last question today, have you gotten a second opinion from a different doc RE: meds? On the surface it would seem you have been given alot of different drugs to try.....I'm just trying to help figure out the puzzle!

What is a diet cordial? Sherry?

Wishing you some luck with all this, hope someone else will come in here with some ideas!

Are you insulin resistant? I don't know much about that but have read the term before. I have an excellent book written by a diabetic doc, I can research what he has to say about this cause I know it's addressed in the book.....

Hi buttons
I haven't had a second opinion yet but if things keep going on l will i am looking at shifting soon so l will see a doc when I have shifted, for a second opinion,I do have PN but I don't take meds as I have seen how addicted all the people get on here, so I have decided to try and brave it out for as long as I can, I also have spiney problems that I brave out as well.
my bloods are between 10 and 16 I don't know what US readings are but 5 is good 10 is bad,the only meds I take are coversyl for high blood pressure, metrolol for heart condition that is caused through anemia, I can not take iron for that as I am allergic to iron meds, so now and then I have blood transfusions to increase my iron levels lol, that didn't work last time reading on that are still the same as they where when I went in.
diet cordial is just cordial and water,I don't know how else to explain it, it is not alcohol kids drink it in water.
buttons thanks for the input and the questions I don't mind if someone else can help me great.

Smile Hi robert

I have spinach but I can only eat small amounts as it gives me stomach pain, but the doctor has told me that it is not enough to bring up my iron,I went in a week ago and had another transfusion, have to have another blood test in 3 week to see if it has brought up my heamaglobin readings I think it has as I don't feel quite so tired and exhausted as I did.
and to everyone that was trying to help me with my diabetes the photophane has worked for me so now I am on protaphane and 2 diamicron mr.and my reading are down to around 6 and 7 australian, that is good.
