The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced in Oct2006 the approval of Januvia (sitagliptin phosphate) Tablets, the first diabetes treatment approved in a new class of drugs known as DPP-4 inhibitors that enhances the body's own ability to lower elevated blood sugar.

I've been on Avandamet for quite a while for Type-2 diabetes but Avandamet alone, along with diet and exercise, didn't provide adequate blood sugar control. So, my doctor put me on Januvia in Dec2006.

I saw my blood glucose readings improve somewhat and have not experienced any side affects for far.

I was just wondering if anyone else has any experience with this new medicine.

On being a guiena pig for the FDA. Have you heard the news lately? Avandia & Actos have both been shown to cause possible heart failure & death. The FDA knew about this but chose to ignore it.

Beware of new drugs would be my motto.

And I'm very curious what this new drug costs?

Sorry, I don't know anything whatsoever about Actos.

I've heard the adverse news about Avandia. After talking to my doctor, he tells me that those having these specific problems are few and already had significant risk factors regarding heart disease. These patients were weaned off of Avandia and placed on a replacement therapy.

Sorry, since I don't take Avandia or Actos, I can't help you with your questions about the costs of these medicines.
