It might be an idea if you got retested for A1C every few months or so, just to see if it is increasing with time.
Regular fasting glucose and glucose tolerance tests are also worth considering as is measurements of your insulin levels.

Hi, I eat like I could be diabetic and I'm not. My A1C last test was 5.4. But regardless, I eliminate MOSTLY refined carbs and sugars. Last thing I want to deal with is diabetes.

Might want to do a thorough 2 hour Impaired Glucose tolerance test. Do a fasting baseline, then eat something high carb like a baked potato, pizza or spaghettiti and garlic bread. Then take a glucose reading every 30 minutes for up to 2 hours. If you spike over 140, you are prediabetic.
This is what I found out. I am now heating healthy. No more high carb meals for me. It has been said that every time your blood sugars go over 140, it causes nerve and organ damage. Even if for an hour or two. |
