Default Type2 research from 1998, bet you never heard of it

http://www.dukemednews.duke.edu/news/article.php?id=519

BTW.... a 35% of your calories from fat diet is NOT a low fat diet....
I stay around 20% and have for 9 or 10 years and have no troubles or problems doing so. It's really quite easy, if you have any reason for not being able to do the same it's NOT because you can't...It's simply that you just don't want to. Say or think whatever you want, but that is just exactly the way it is, period.

High fat diets, especially diets high in modified vegetable fats and meat fats, are the primary cause of Type2 diabetes in America. I eat cheeses, drink whole milk, eat "high fat" cottage cheese, eat eggs and REAL butter, 13% fat plain yogurt, and amazingly enough, I am told I am as healthy as any 54 y.o. male around. But then, I do walk at least 1.75 at least once every day almost every day sun/rain/snow/hot/cold/whatever. And I eat three rather small meals and have three rather large snacks every day. Oh yeah, and my annual fast food intake consists of almost none.

And a request to all the food "gurus" in print and online and TV and elsewhere....
When talikng about fat, diet, and foods, please stop referring to whole milk as a high fat food. IT IS NOT!!! At 4% milk fat, whole milk and cottage cheese are VERY VERY LOW FAT NUTRIENT DENSE FOODS!!!! If you doubt this maybe you should compare the fat and nutrient contents of your favorite fast food meal or what you had for lunch today, to a meal of a 12 ounce glass of whole milk, a banana, and a real just ground up peanuts peanut butter and "Polners" (or the like) jelly sandwich on whole grain bread........and then add in the plain yogurt mixed with "Polners" (or the like), the apple/orange/peach/pear/whatever you like fresh or no-sugar-added canned fruit you like, and the 8 triscuits and 4 thin slices of extra sharp chedder cheese you get for a snack several hours later.

It is almost mathematically impossible to remain overweight if one follows a very low fat/high-complex-carbohydrate /moderate-high-quality-protein diet. Fat is 9 calories per gram, protein and carbs are but 4 calories per gram, Dietary fats are converted into stored body fat at almost no cost in calories. To turn carbs and proteins into fat takes a LOT of caloric energy. Just think, it takes just a bit more than 1 gram of excess calories taken as fat, or 3 grams taken as of carbs and/or proteins to put on just one gram of weight.

2000 calories daily at 35% fat is 402 grams of food, 2000 calories at 20% fat is 444 grams of food...... See how easy that is.....

I spent months monitoring my glucose levels and comparing them to changes in my diet.
low fat diets and regular small meals and large snacks, AND walking just once a day for 30 minutes or so leads to very stable and controllable serum glucose levels.

This is no BS now, I started out at 260 plus pounds in the summer of 1998, and by the time I had my wreck in 2002, I had been down to between 170 and 180 pounds for three or four years.

It is nothing except being willing to accept responsibility for your own health that leads to such long term success. That and the ability to realize that all the pills, "diets", doctors, therapies and all else just aren't going to do a thing until you finally get a grip on your diet and get off yer **** and do something. Clean out the fridge, and go for a walk.

Oh yeah, and park at the farthest parking space from the door , take the stairs, refuse the "treats", go to the park and push some kids on the swing-set, get rid of that infernal leaf blower and buy a good rake, get rid of that riding mower and replace it with a walk behind, grow a garden, ride a stationary bike, just do something beside whine about how unfair it all is.

Hi there:

I completely agree with what you wrote. I was diagnosed type 2, 20 years ago. Never did a darn thing about my weight, I took 8 oral pills a day, and I remained morbidly obese.

About 5 years or so ago, (when I was 55), I went to a nutritionist), I finally listened. I follow a very sensible eating plan. It's a no-brainer.

I eat low-fat, low carb and normal protein. I don't overload my kidneys with protein. I have gone off all my oral meds.

I was put on Lantus (46 units), and now I'm down to 26. I am in a diabetic protocol at Cornell Medical Center.

I am now 60 and I look better than how I looked at 40. I mean, I weighed over 300 lbs. How good could I looked?? I was in big denial.

The exercise is the key.

I have arthritis. So I have bad days and good days. But I walk every day and I do the best I can.

I must be doing something right because my hubby's eyes still light up when I walk in the room.

I also laugh as much as I can. It works wonders.

Take care,

Melody
