Default Results of Eating Fish

I just wanted to pass along something I've learned from my dietary habits.

I used to be morbidly obese. Most of life. I got skinny at age 24, it didn't last.

So in my 50's, I decided to make some MAJOR changes. I also began to eat fish several times a week. I wasn't that crazy about it, but I did it. I haven't eaten red meat in, well I can't remember.

But, and this may only apply to me, the eating fish really has helped to bring down my sugar even more.

I could hardly believe it. And also, I take Chromium picolinate. Started that two weeks ago.

wow, you could knock me over with a feather.

I also gave up my small container of Wonton Egg Drop mix that I used to have for lunch every other day or so. It's just too hot to eat soup around here so I said 'no more soup until after the summer". I'm not going back to soup even then. The change in my sugar reading is just too dramatic to chance going back to soup. I might have it once in a while but not more than that.

So between the Chromium Picolinate, and what I believe is the key factor in my diabetic reading is FISH. I eat fish (in one form or another) every single day. I eat Turbot Fillet, fillet of sole and flounder. I used to eat shrimps, but I liked them with cocktail sauce but then I looked at the label of the cocktail sauce and it had SUGAR. I said 'oh bummer".

I lost more weight. Now whether this is attributed to the fish, or do my moving a bit more, well I don't know.

I do know that for the past 7 days, I have NEVER seen readings so consistent. I have to attribute it to the fish. I also take Omega 3 Fish Oil supplements every day. I set out my pill box on Sunday, fill it with my supplements (and of course I faithfully take my Methylcobalimin 5000). I take one pill every other day because my last reading was 2000. So I figure I have stored enough so that I can take a pill every other day.

So far, no burning, (not since i went on this supplement). I got lucky, this I know.

And the doctors don't subscribe to any supplements or B-12 for Neuropathy, or ANYTHING like that.

They just say "your feet don't burn because you are managing your blood sugar better".

Well, how do they think I'm managing my blood sugar??

I eat fish, I take my supplments. I also lost more weight.

So, if you add all this up, it brought my sugar readings down.

This week I'm getting 110, 115, 103. I never saw this before and I'm pleased as punch.

I only take 22 units of Lantus in the morning. I go to Cornell this friday.

I have no idea if they will reduce me to 18 units. Holy Cow, imagine that. 4 yeas ago I was on Metformin and 46 units of Lantus.

My weight loss has been VERY SLOW over the past 7 years. The end result is dramatic but if you watched me over the past 7 years you woudn't have noticed anything. That's how hard it was for me to lose weight. It's like my metabolism stopped.

But I didn't worry about it. I just ate what I was supposed to eat. I cut out absolutely everything white, and little by little, ounce by ounce, it just came off. Maybe that's the better way, because it stayed off.

AND THE BEST BONUS IS THAT ONCE IN A WHILE I GET TO EAT A PORTION OF FRUIT.

Have you ever heard anyone get excited about fruit??

Alan snacks every single night on bowls of fruit and a bowl of popcorn. I can't go near popcorn, but when I made him the fruit, I made myself a small bowl of strawberries and a handful of blueberrires with a slice of a cantelope, cut up in small pieces.

I just ate it very slowly. This was about 7 p.m. I don't eat ANTHING after that hour.

I just wanted to put some fruit in my body. I can't juice but I figured "I must start putting some good stuff into my body and fruit is good stuff". But I had to find the fruit that didn't impact my sugar.

The next morning my sugar reading was 110. I said "wow, I can eat FRUIT??"

This is a far cry from the mentality I had when I would stuff chips and pretzels into my face every single night of my life.

I know I can't eat oranges. I know I CAN eat berries and cantalope. I wonder about mangoes, pomegranates (never had one of those), never had a mango come to think of it. I would classify grapefruit as the same as oranges, right? Can't eat grapes, can't eat cherries, or watermelon. I believe this is pure sugar, right??

So if anyone has any fruit ideas that I can slowly add to my diet, I'd sure love to hear it.

Don't get all exotic on me, I live in an Italian neighborhood and the most exotic thing we have is Bartlett pears. Oh yeah, pears and apples, they should be safe right??

Good Lord, imagine getting excited about fruit.

lol

Hi Shelley:

Never knew about the cherries. I only know that when, in the past, I used to eat them, they constipated me, so I'm hesitant.

And thank you soooooo much for all the fruit information.

I recently have been having a hard time going to the bathroom on a regular basis. I have to drink more water. I used to take stool softners and the ocasional enema but I don't want to do this. I want my body to go in a normal way. I bought some All Bran (my father used to say "a little bran every day makes you regular"). He never had a problem. No one in my family ever had any stomach problems.

I do like to go to the bathroom on a regular basis but I think that as we get older, sometimes, that's not going to happen. I am going to buy Benefiber and drink a glass of that (as directed).

I've gotten my body back to almost normal. My sugar, my blood pressure, my weight, blah blah blah.

I just don't want to be consiptated. The Calcium I used to take, well, forget it, it blocked me. And there is calcium in the supplements I do take.

At least I do go. I think my body is trying to catch up with itself.

I don't eat a lot of food. Not like I used to all those years ago.

And when I was on the Metformin, I used to go 4 times a day. Good Lord, I thought I would go nuts. When they put me on Lantus, all that stopped and I went just fine.

But two weeks ago, when my son began calling, THAT'S WHEN MY STOMACH STARTED TO ACT UP.. I always know this is going to happen.

We have to get through the month of June, (this happens every year). It's his birthday, Father's day and Alan's birthday. So there are always phone calls. When I hear from him, my body does not react in a good way. He has put us through so much, well I guess the mind controls the body.

When the phone calls stop, my nervous system goes back to normal.

It's amazing how one's mind can take over the body.

I always know that when I hear from my son, I'm not going to have a good day.

How sad is that?

My body reacts to this.

Oh well, June is almost over.

Lightbulb Cherries

are my favorite...and they are in season now (but very expensive)

They also help with arthritis.
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0510010724.htm

I buy them ALWAYS when I can get them. They keep a long time in the frig too. I just got 3 lbs at Costco for $11.00

I have a handful daily.

Haven't seen the Rainer's yet...I don't know if they have the same effect on arthritis tho. But they sure are good.

Lightbulb The cherries I found

at Costco came from CALIFORNIA!!! LOL

Michigan is not doing as many ...alot of them go to the wine
industry here. I like cherry wine, but I don't have it very often since reds affect me and sometimes give me a headache.

So far in the 3 lb lot, there have only been 2 damaged. That has to be a record! I have 1/2 of the container left after 10 days, and they are keeping nicely and very sweet/juicy. yumyum...

Mich cherries are usually in July. May typically has the Washington Rainiers...which are like gourmet cherries. If you haven't tried them, you must. They have a slightly different flavor/aroma.
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/food/2...ainier23.shtml

I have not been able to get them this season. Kroger's got 15 cartons and they were sold out in less than a day! I missed the boat on that one.

The Rainiers tend to go bad quickly, and bruise easily. Don't buy them in large amounts because the ones on the bottom are damaged --they are also more expensive!
