Default Home From Hospital

Hi Folks,
As many of you know I went into the hospital last Thurs. April 1st to have a veeg done and it's a good thing I had one done. I had noticed a big increase in my sz. which were coming from the RTL (right temporal lobe) well after having the veeg done they found that now my sz. are coming from both the right and left temporal lobe from to many brain cells. My neuro increased the amount of keppra I was taking which I personally don't think will work because I've noticed more sz. since I was put on keppra but I am willing to give it a try and if that doesn't work I will try another new AED or be put on a special diet different from the ketogenic diet to help stop my sz. It sure is good to be home. All of you take care and May God Bless All of You!

Thumbs up

Sue,

Good to see you back sure have missed you. The wise staying "There is no place like home."

I am so sorry you are having so much trouble. I have been on Keppra for a good long time and it seem to help, just not a lot. My neuro sent me to epileptologist and he raise my dosage, then as you know I had surgery.

Maybe just giving the Keppra a chance to get into your system will help you out. Sometimes with meds. you need to get some in there there to do the job.

Again it is great to have you back. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Darlene

Hi Darlene,
Thanks for dropping me a line. I've been on keppra since August 2009 and my neuro that I usually sz. decreased it because he felt that it was causing to many simple partial (aura) sz. for me. I had to see a different neuro while in the hospital because the regular neuro is over in Italy working for 6 months. They increased the keppra from 1000 mg. to 2000 mg. last week and I had a few more sz. but that was because my neuro had me eating starch foods and drinking diet sodas which I know will start up the sz.
I will just leave everything in Gods hands I know He is right there beside me and won't give me more than I can handle. Thank you so much for your prayers.
May God Richly Bless You,
Sue

Welcome home Sue! I understand what you're going through. When I first started taking Keppra back when it first came out, I had problems with it also. It felt like my throat was going to swell up if I took too much. I found out that I just needed to take Nexium due to stomach problems. I didn't realize that my sinus problems were also due to acid-reflux.

I hope that your problems get taken care of sooner than what my problems did! It's been over 10 years since my LTL Lobectomy. My seizures came back and I'm finally getting to the point where these problems are settling down! Now that I can sleep without a CPAP machine, I'm working on gradually going off the Paxil. The last time I tried to back off Paxil, I backed off too fast. That was a no no. :Q

It's good to see you home. I hope that things go well for you.

Hi Becky,
It's great to hear from you! I'm sorry that you had problems while on keppra also and I hope all is going well for you now. Today I've had 4 sz. so far 2 auras (simple partial) and 2 absence sz. I can see where the keppra is increasing the sz. and I know that is one side effect from the drug just like the nausea. I got a letter from the FDA stating to report any problems with this drug and I guess I will have to let them know that it does increase sz. for some people.
Wishing you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Yes it is good to have you back and know you're glad to be home. I thought about you over Easter. Re your having activity on both sides, you are not alone. I was always told right side only, but after so many years of uncontrolled seizures due to not getting the right care, it kindled to the other side. So I have it on the left now too. That may be the reason I still take an AED, Keppra, after having what I consider successful surgery. Sugery was on the right leaving a mirror focus on the left. I started on 2,000 mg Keppra and was on that for 11 years. You have two other meds I think. Right? Are they considering changing those? Did you rule out the possibility of the VNS? Tattoo

Hi Tattoo,
They found activity on both lobes as well as the frontal lobe what I don't get is how could it have spread especially after I had surgery in 1994 on the RTL and there was no activity on the LTL or the frontal lobe. The neuro told me it was all do to stress but I wonder if it's because I went through my change.
As far as a VNS I don't want one of those I want to have gamma knife surgery done or a DBS (Deep Brain Stimulator) put in but they refused to talk about that. When my regular neuro comes back from Italy in a few months they are going over my case and then this summer I will look into the surgery or DBS.
You are correct I also take Diamox and mysoline but I have found that the keppra has increased my sp sz. as well as my absence sz. so I cut myself back from 2000 mg. to 1500 mg and within time I would like to only be taking 500 mg. of the drug. I've found the more AED's I take the more problems I have controling my sz.
Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!
