Default Hello Everyone!

It has been a while since I've been here so I wanted to update you on what been going on. Since home life hasn't been great I decided to take a summer class and slowly try to work towards becoming a medical asst. Yesterday was my first class so of course to bring in the excitement I had a small seizure. I hope everything will work out! How are all of you doing? I hope everything is going well and may all of you enjoy your summers!

Heart Tiger

Great to hear from you. Boy do I remember going to classes, about the only time I would have one was the first day at the school and also come home with a headache.

I have been doing pretty good. I still haven't had a spell since the surgery, and will be seeing my neuro Monday since the operation. It has been 176 days since my last one, just hoping I will stay that way. I can't believe I have a clean house now. Also I have been getting out in the yard and doing rose beds and many other things out there.

I wish you a lotttttttttttt of luck on your classes. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi Tiger Lilly,
It's great to hear from you again and I wish you the best with your schooling. I'm winding down the yr. working in public school my last day is the 24th of June and then I will be working as a bus aide over the summer.
I've been having many more sz. than usual and I found out that the generic form of Keppra (Levetiracetam) can cause more sz. for people and there are legal lawsuits out now. I've been trying to get ahold of a lawyer who will take the case because as of June 4th I've had 134 sz. this yr. and that's the most sz. I've had since I had my surgery back in 1994. I'm gradually taking myself off the drug and I'm noticing fewer sz. and I don't feel so tired. The FDA has received reports stating that this drug can be a danger to many people so if your neuro/epi ever wants to put you on the drug tell them No! Other than that things are going well. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

Default Levetiracetam / Ivetra

hello.

I am using Ivetra Levetiracetam 500mg a day at bed time. same time everyday. So far i dont have sz. But I am wondering if that can really cure epilepsy. My neurologist said that with Levetiracetam it might take a year or two before getting a normal result in EEG. the other neurologist said that I can take depakote for 6 months and it will also cure the epileptogenic discharges in my brain. I was just recently diagnosed of complex partial seizure. I just dont know which medication is more effective in curing my condition.

Wink Nice to meet you!!

It is great to have you come and be with us. You will fine a great number of dear friends to listen when you are in need of ears. Please, just let us know how we can help you out. You will find out we are supportive and relaxing place.

I too have epilepsy but have been seizure free for a long time. There are agreat number of medicine for epilepsy, what will help one may not to sucessful for others. I have been on Levetiracetam for a number of years. It did take some time, but I did and was capable to have surgery for epilepsy and it was sucessful, but to be on the save side I am still take it.

My advice to you is have your family Dr. refer you to see a Epileptologist (Dr. specializing in Epilepsy) and go to a Epilepsy Center. These places are found at large hospitals or university hospitals. These Drs. will do a series of tests on you and this will help the them fine exactly what's going on with your situtation. One other thing to do is taking vitamin B12 1000 mcg. once a day for adult. Afford being around strong flashing lights like at theater, you could wear sunglasses. Also at the theater just make sure you turn your head and shut your eyes during flashing back grounds.

Please keep us up to date on your situation. Again welcome, looking forward to seeing you around. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Darlene

Most AEDs work for complex partials, but each person responds differently and each has different patient considerations so no one can be certain how you will respond, but keppra is a common first drug to try (always read up on side effects). I would not phrase it in terms of 'curing' epilepsy, more like controlling. Partial seizures have a fair chance of being drug resistant.

Hi Khayeocampo,

When I was on keppra it increased my sz. like crazy and gave me a terrible hot temper. If you see any signs of this happening get of the drug. I have also seen posts where the keppra has done wonders for other people and they are no longer having sz. I wish you and the family only the best of luck and May God Bless You!
