Default Whats causing my seizures and help understanding MRI report

Hi all I don't know if this is the right thread to post in as I don't really use the computer much, I kind of need help understanding the MRI reports to find out why I'm having seizures, I will give the report and explain what iv been going through.

I had a full seizure at work (2009) and was taken to the hospital, they then did a CAT scan to find something in my head, they did a MRI (report below). I was told that I was epileptic and the thing in my head was prob always there.I was put on seizure medication which caused me to have a few seizures so I stoped taking it. My work visa in OZ was just about to expire and I had booked a trip to NZ already so I went, over the next 7 months I had no more seizures and wasn't taking any meds.
I then started to have quit a few seizures and was throwing up daily, I then returned to OZ as I had recieved the visa a was waiting on. I saw a neurologest who did a EEG that showed up normal, I did a second MRI in 2011 (report below) to see what was new and they told me it hadn't grown so I must be epileptic. They put me on anti epileptic meds about 4 months ago but I am still throwing up alot and accasionally have a seizure while still on the meds.
I looked at the reports closely last week as the first MRI scan only just came from NZ with my belongings and I noticed that the scans from 2009 says 2.4x2.0x1.7 cm but in 2011 it says 2.9cm, so don't know why they said it hadn't grown.

First MRI Report
There is a well demarcated, unilocular and homogeneous lesion in the left temporal lobe. The lesion measures approx 2.4 x 2.0 x 1.7 cm and is of CSF signal intensity on T1 and T2 weighted images. The lesion is suppressed on the flair images and there is no surrounding oedema. Upon contrast administration, there is no internal or peripheral enhancement. Immediately beneath the lesion are a few areas of T2 prolongation which presumably represent spongiosis/gliosis. No definite communication with the adjacent lateral ventricle is seen. The remainder of the surrounding brain parenchyma is normal and there is no evidence of restricted diffusion. The remainder of the supratentorial compartment is normal. The brainstem is normal. The ventricles exhibit normal confiuration.

Second MRI Report
The ventricles are normal in size and position. There is a 2.9cm cyst in the left posterior temporal lobe. Ther is no mass effect and no abnormal contrast enhancement with no vascular abnormality. Limited views of the orbits and sinuses are normal.

If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. thanks very much zane

Hi zabeh,

Welcome to the forum! From what I have read and the MRI it could be the cyst that it causing the seizures. Often an E.E.G. won't show any problems because the damage is to deep in the brain. There may be possible swelling in your brain on the left temporal lobe from the cyst which in turn will trigger seizures for you. My advice to you is to see an Epileptologist (Dr. specializing in epilepsy) and go to an Epilepsy Center which are usually found at University Hospitals or Big hospitals.
Often a person may vomit when having a seizure and it's all part of the seizure. Try taking vitamin B12 1000 mcg. once a day to help calm the nerves and this may help reduce your seizures.
You should also see a neurosurgeon and get the cyst taken care of immediately. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Heart Nice to meet you!!

zaneh,

Hello and welcome to NeuroTalk. Happy to see you have come to be with us. You will find out we are supportive and relaxing place.

Sue has given you some great things to help you out. It may take a few weeks for the medicine to start working, then again maybe your doctor will change the medicine. One time I was switch because after I got a great amount I had to drop that one. So my neurologist had to change my meds. Also I too at times had a headache after a seizure. When I would go and have a MRI there was nothing to see. When my neuro sent me to a Epileptologist and he did found a problem with it.

Again welcome, looking forward to seeing you around. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Darlene

Hi zaneh,

You may be vomiting do to the meds you are taking as Darlene mentioned. Maybe your pain killer and seizure meds are interacting with
each other causing the problem. You should call your pharmacist to get
all the details about the side effects of the meds you are taking and if they
interact with each other.
One thing you should take note of is if you use a cell phone or if you use nutra sweet (aspartame) or drink diet soda this may be bothering you because both the cell phone and aspartame can cause more electrical activity in a persons brain causing seizure, nausea, and in some cases brain tumors. I found out I was cell phone sensitive and when I'm around others who are using cell phones it triggers seizures for me. All this is do to the freqency of the cell phone. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

((zaneh))

I agree that you should seek a referral to an epileptologist, one who specializes in diagnosing and treating seizure disorders.

Have you been taking the med with or without meals? Some meds need to be taken on an empty stomach, others require that you eat something to help the body absorb the med without nausea. For instance, I take Depakote ER & have to eat something before, otherwise I fight major nausea all day and then can't eat either! Talk with your pharmacist for a quick response on what to do.

In my experience, prior to my surgery, doctors never saw any lesions or cysts through MRI. Only the EEG's came out abnormally. I'd therefore assume that you have some growth in your LTL which is what's causing the seizures to occur. You may need to ask the epileptologist if surgery would be the best treatment for you to gain control over your seizures.

Very best wishes!
Shez
