Default Getting off meds

I was "retired" from the military due to a stroke and have a siezure disorder resulting from it. If I can go so many years without medication and siezures I can get back in. Does this seem like a very hopeful result? Has anybody had positive results post stroke without meds for siezures? Over two years I've had a combined 2 grand maul and about 3 focal siezures. One of the grand mauls were at the time of my stroke. After a year of being on meds I tried going without. I went 5 months siezure free without meds, but then my dr convinced me to start taking them again. Shortly thereafter I had my next grand maul. I've gained back full function since the stroke, thanks to being soo young when it happened. This is my one hang-up. Any info and hope would be great.

Thumbs down

You sound like me...and unfortunately, we're both in situations where "breakthrough" szs are much more likely than they are for someone with no known cause. Since you apparently had a sz while you were on med, the likelihood of being off med permanently with no return of your szs is probably very low. I'm sorry. Certainly ask your neuro, as I'm just a well-read, lifelong neuro patient myself, but this is what I know. It's simply not a realistic expectation under such circumstances. Your brain has suffered a great insult, and this is the result. A small dose may give you excellent control, as it does me, but med may (and probably will) always be necessary.
