Default don't know what happened?

hi, I have some questions that I hope someone can help me with. I'm usually involved in the PCS forum because I have had mild concussion, but I have recovered well.

Something happened Sunday night, and I went to the doctor because I thought I broke my pinky finger from falling near the tv cabinet. I described what happened and the doctor told me it sounded like a generalised tonic-clonic seizure? He said that my fainting episode was most likely caused by seizure?

I've never fainted or had a seizure before, and I'm 19 yo. There were two things that probably caused it, stress and lack of sleep. I was overtired and it happened directly after I got a fright from a frog (I have a phobia of frogs). But usually not to that extreme.

I got a fright and then everything went black very suddenly, I hit my hand against the cabinet and fell to the ground. I don't know for how long, it seemed to happen pretty quickly but I don't know, I really don't know what happened. I really have no memory of anything. The only thing I remember was falling, but it wasn't a normal fall, it was like my body switched off, if that makes sense.

The next thing I know was I somehow got onto the couch and was extremely cold and shivering so much my jaw was rattling? I was tired, confused and cold. I let myself recover a bit, and afraid I might have jolted my head from falling I checked if my pupils were reacting properly, and I noticed they were really dilated and slow to react to light. I went to bed and fell into a really deep sleep.

I woke up feeling sore, my muscles all over my body felt like I had worked out or something, bruises on my legs, and a really sore pinky, which was my main concern to the doctor.

He said I should go ahead and see another doctor about it, but I don't know if I should because of the possibility of it never happening again. I don't want to make a fuss about it if it wasn't serious. I'm hoping for someone with experience with seizures to tell me if they agree with the doctor. I'm feeling as if I'm still recovering even though it was 2 nights ago. I also don't know if this is a symptom but I've been startling easily.

Wink Nice to meet you!!

luduplo,

It is great to have you come and be with us. You will fine a great number of dear friends to listen when you are in need of ears. Please, just let us know how we can help you out. You will find out we are supportive and relaxing place.

There a great friends here. You need to see a neuro to be on the safe side. Then if you need to go on with these signs check with an Epileptologist (Dr. specializing in epilepys) at an Epilepsy Center which are usually at University or big hospitals. Your need to cut out the carbs and starch foods because they will trigger seizures. Start keeping track of your seizures by writing them down on a calendar, by doing this the Dr. may see a pattern in your seizures. Get yourself on vitamin B12 500 mcg. once a day. Also avoid very bright light, like at a theater, the flashing can bring on a seizure. Just close you eyes and turn your head at that time.

Please keep us up to date on your condition. Again welcome, looking forward to seeing you around. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi luduplo,
Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you had a drop sz. and it wouldn't suprise me if all of this happened because of your concussion. I had a concussion a few yrs. ago after a auto accident when a guy rear ended me and sent me flying. The concussion caused swelling a bad brusing of my brain which in turn caused me to have many sz. Another thing that messed me up causing sz. is my gp put me on neurontin for pain and this drug was found to cause sz. for peopls so if you are taking neurontin for anything this could be the problem also. My advice to you is to see a neurosurgeon and have him/her do some tests on you to make sure there's no brain damage from the concussion. Also take vitamin B12 1000 mcg. once a day and cut back on the caffeine and nutra sweet because this will cause sz. and more pain when it comes to the concussion. I wish you the best and May God Bless You!

Sue

luduplo,

It sounds like you had a vasovagal reaction. It is not a seizure. The startle can cause vasovagal syncope (fainting). Look up/google vasovagal and you will understand.

Thanks for your replies, I knew it couldn't have been a seizure. It just worried me that a doctor would tell me that I had a seizure out of the blue. But I've ruled out seizures, and syncope is still a maybe. It was as if I actually tried to get away from the frog too fast for my own good and ended up hurting my finger and falling onto the floor instead. The good old fight or flight response in times of fear is to blame I think. Doctors either worry you to the bone or do nothing.
