Default Epilepsy, non working meds, and fighting with disability. UGH!

I was diagnosed with E in 2006, and it changed my life. I was an on air radio personality, and it put a quick stop to that! I filed for disability in 09, denied, denied, denied, now appealing in federal court with another one going with a new atty. he just filed, a little over a month ago, a request for an OTR decision. My meds do not work, and trust me, i have been on many of them, several at many different times. i also have other health issues associated with E, depression, bipolar, etc. M question is, I am a 36 y/o female, havent had gainful employment since diagnosis, and with the seizures continuing and being documented by my neurologist and dr, what are my chances of getting an OTR? i had a friend research, and my new atty rarely files these.....so he must think i have some sort of shot. but maybe that is optimism.

Hi nicd557,

I have a friend that had to file twice to get disability and now the gov't. has stated that disability will be running out by 2016. My friend had to speak with the state insurance agency to get any place.
Depression is all part of epilepsy I've had it for 41 yrs. now. What you need to do is call the Epilepsy Foundation of America at 1-800-332-1000 and they can direct you in the right path and they also have lawyers you can speak with to get the info. and any advice you may need.
You are at the age where pre menopause could be taking place and I know this caused me to have many sz. that the Dr. couldn't control even after I had brain surgey. I found using natural progesterone cream one of the best thing to do It's made of peanuts and wild yams so if you are allergic to either of these foods don't use the cream. I put the cream on my arms a couple times a week and it reduced my sz. greatly because it increased my progesterone level and lowered the estrogen level in my body and its' estrogen that causes more electrical activity in the brain which can trigger sz. I think it's great that you were on the radio I've had my ham radio license for over 10 yrs. and I enjoy talking on the radio and meeting people from all over the world. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue

Hi Nicole, I recieved my 2 letters yesterday and the day befor and I was aproved for Disability and SSI. They found me "severly disabled" regarding my one condition and then found me disabled from my epilepsy. I thought for sure I was going to get denied again because it was taking so long like the first time. I think what did it was 3 of my specialist had sent in letters (which i didnt even know they were doing, i only knew of 1) and they got ahold of my hospital records.

why did they jump to a hearing already? Usally that happens if youve been denied twice and thats the 3rd step.

I have one case that I filed for forst in nov 09, it is pending in federal court on appeal. my second one is the one i have a hearing for in august. i filed that one when i fould out i had been denied on the first one after the last appeal before we took it to federal, which was the beginning of 2012. i have been denied now 2 times i think on this second one, the first time for when i initially filed, then when we had to file to go in front of a judge. my attorney filed papers for an on the record review, and i am waiting to hear about that too, on the second case. i am pretty much resolved to the fact that the first one is dead in the water, because i used on of those lawyers from tv. big mistake.
