Hi Qwerky,

What you are describing sounds like a aura sz. also known as a simple partial sz. this happens to me a lot. I will get a nervous feeling in my stomach and sometimes see colors flashing back and forth in my eyes then I will smell weird odors like deviled eggs, or natural gas. Once in awhile I won't be able to talk for a few seconds or I will hear one word repeated over and over again but nobody is really saying anything. My Epileptologist told me this was a simple partial sz. that starts out in the head then shoots down into the stomach. I have been told to tighten up the muscles in my body and make tight fists the moment I start to feel this and it will stop the sz. it has worked for me many times. If you were under stress and if you were tired those are 2 of the main things that can trigger sz. for a person. I hope you are doing fine now. Here's wishing you only the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Thanks, sue
And everybody else!
Taking b12 which is helping me with late at night issues, so I'm not getting do many odd spells. Also heard some others tuff in this forum thSt to me, anyway, confirm that it's smiled seizure--like tensing in head, then a "pop". I've hD them so long I figure everybody has them ??

Very helpful forum!
Blessings and have a nice holiday everybody!

Hi Qwerky,

I'm glad to hear that the vitamin B12 has helped you sleep better. I hope that things improve for you and that all of your sz. end forever. Here's wishing you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Weird feelings and specialist

Hi Qwerky, People have shared some good info and ideas with you. Start keeping a chart / calendar of when, what and how long these wierd things happen to you. If you can't find a specialist try to get a neurologist to order an EEG and try to schedule it at about the time when these things occur most.

EEG will map out irregular brain activity if it occurs during the test.

At the time I was stressed, not handling it well sorry to say. I mean, stressed immediately prior to the odd sensations.

Entire thing couldn't have lasted longer than a minute or so. But I'm hVing a lot more of these odd little incidents. Will reducing stress make them go away? Ive been taking b12, buty sleep has been off ( slept better last night).

So I'm both concerned and not really concerned, here. I'm very curious, however.

I hope you soon get the referral to see neurologist or specialist. Just don't give up. I have left temporal seizures due to minor concussion. It took the fifth neurologist to diagnose me. The first and second neurologist saw me after my concussion. They never figured out it was a closed head injury.
When I get fatigued my eye will twitch.

My seizure activity didn't show up until I did the 72 hour ambulatory EEG. It isn't fun but the information was valuable. Ask the neurologist about it. Any activity should be picked up.

Thank you for that information. I haven't convinced dr to get me an EEG but my p doc referred me to a sleep study. When I can't sleep I "trip" into a fast bout of depression. Do they put EEG on patients during a sleep study? I'm hoping N praying for answers at this point. My depression is under control mostly as are my anxiety, few odd spells but I come close. the odd spells happen when I'm most tired, so, I am really really hoping they put those scalp things on. I will keep everyone posted, just on case it proves helpful for others.

Hi Qwerky,

When you have the sleep study done they can do an e.e.g. also that's what my Epileptologist did with me last spring. Ask the Dr. who will do the sleep study if they will do an e.e.g. for you at the same time this will help figure out what's going on and if it's the lack of sleep that's triggering sz. which wouldn't surprise me since that's one of the main things that can cause sz. along with stress. The depression could also be do to epilepsy, especially if any sz. are coming from the right temporal lobe or it could be any sz. med you are taking that's causing depression. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Please let us know how you are doing and the test result.

Qwerky 05-10-2014 05:11 AM

Well, no test yet. Dr wants to put me on anti anxiety to see if it helps. I am doing ok, better anyway. Not perfect.
I'll keep the thread updated when or if I get the test, my insurance doesn't want to pay is what I think may have happened.

As an epileptic for 53 years now, I would treasure other's knowledge of the affects of having epilepsy for a long length of time. I wonder if it will decrease living span. Tell me what results you may have had from left temporal surgery. I had this done 17 years ago and day seizures stopped and nocturnal ones began. I have never been off drugs. I am still glad I did this because it made it possible to get my drivers license. What happened after your surgery? So meaningful talking to others who actually understand different parts of epilepsy.

Have a great weekend and remember we are all together.

Sincerely, Doris
