Default Vimpat

Well I finally saw my neuro 2 days ago, I haven't seen one in over a year. He saw my weight loss, as ive lost ALOT more weight since oct. He put me on vimpat at a low dose to try and decrease the side affects and then in 2 weeks once im up to a more therapeutic level of the vimpat, then im going to go off the Depakote. He's hoping the vimpat will be enough to cover all the szs. If not im to call him back in a month and let him know. The only side affects im having with the vimpat is feeling foggy and tired, but that's normal for me when starting any new AED. Here's to hoping this works!

Hi tos8,
I've been on vimpat for 3 yrs. now and it has worked great for me reducing my absence and complex partial sz. and it completely stopped my myoclonic sz. The only side effect I had with the drug that had me worried was a rapid heartbeat and shortness of breath but after awhile that stopped, I also will get dizzy for a few seconds but then it goes away. Just like you the drug made me feel more tired and I slowly got used to it. The one thing I don't like about the drug is that I've gained weight while on it. I also found out that if I take over 400 mg. a day of vimpat it will increase my sz. so be sure and watch out for anything like that. Here's wishing you only the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Well ive been on the vimpat this week and im supposed to increase my dose next week, but yesterday I got my first aura (or so I recognize what they are now), I had woke up yesterday afternoon and I felt odd and my face was tingling and I just couldn't shake that odd feeling and then it went away and last night I had a tonic clonic and needed my emergency meds. So im really hoping its not the vimpat increasing my seizures.

Hi tos8,

My Dr. had me increase my vimpat from 300 mg. to 400 mg. a day and when I did that it caused me to have more sz. so I went back to 300 mg. and was doing much better. If the sz. continue let your Dr. know about it and have the Dr. cut you back on the vimpat. Every now and then I also get a tingling in my hands and other parts of my body but then it goes away. If you are on any other sz. meds the vimpat may be interacting with the other meds you are taking. My advice to you is to speak with your pharmacist to get the details about the drug. I wish you the best of luck and I hope and pray that you don't have anymore sz. May God Bless You!

Hi tos8,

I was on Depakene brand name for Depakote and when I had to go off of it my sz. increased until my body got used to the change and maybe this is what is causing your sz. My Dr. had me admitted into the hospital for a few days when I was taken off the drug to play it safe but I had been on it over 8 yrs. if not longer. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!
