Default Change in sz.

I went 2 months without a sz. this time. But they have become very different then what they used to be. I was talking to my friend last night, which I remembered and then she said my speech started to slur and then I was having trouble thinking of the words to say and then I couldn't talk at all. I was "alert" but not there. She knew to give me my emergency meds and she said after about 20min it started working and I once again started getting nasty. I apparently was trying to fight her off of me and was trying to argue, she was just trying to get me to my bed. I have absolutely no recollection of any of it. Everytime now during a sz or after what ever it is, I get mean and I have no memory what so ever of having the sz until the next day when somebody tells me. Im just so frustrated about it! My seizures never used to be this way. Anybody else have this issue?

Hi tos8,
I had a change in sz. yrs. ago and it sounds like you may be having complex parital sz. but I may be wrong. Often when this happens to me I will start to see colors in my eyes or I will try to be talking and all of the sudden the words won't come out, my Dr. has told me this is a simple partial (aura) sz. and then it leads into a complex partial sz. where I sometimes wander around or just sit there and do nothing but I don't realize what has happened then when the sz. is over I am very confused and exhausted. During the simple partial sz. I am conscious but when I go into the complex partial sz. I blank out. It's like having 2 different sz. at the same time the simple partial sz. leads into the complex partial sz.
Since I began having complex partial sz. I would be very moody and have a hot temper. This has happened because both sides of my temporal lobe along with my frontal lobe are firing up triggering this type of sz. and it's the frontal lobe that controls a persons behavior.
Take note if you are having more sz. in the fall and winter compared to the spring and summer. If you notice this start sitting around bright lights more because they have found that sometimes a person will have more sz. at certain times of the yr. because they are getting to much or to little serotonin. I have found I have more sz. in the fall and winter so I sit around bright lights and that helps but during the spring and summer I have a lot less sz. because there's more serotonin out there. Here's wishing you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

I do have complex and simple partial sz. They've just never presented this way before. I do now remember my vision had started to get weird and I remember my speech being off, but for some reason I didn't put that together and realize I was going into a sz. My friend gave me my 1 emergency med but I don't think it worked, ive gotten used to the med and it didnt bring me out of my complex partial because she said she couldn't get me to move off the sofa and she said I would stand and sit back down repetitively , she kept talking to me thinking I could understand trying to get me to bed but I wouldn't move besides doing that, but I don't remember any of it. And its whenever somebody touches me is when I get mean.

My seizures were much worse over the summer! I was having them all the time, I think that's why ive gone 2 months without one because we are now into fall.

Its driving me insane I haven't seen a neuro since Feb. because ive been waiting months to get in to see a new dr. Clearly more testing needs to be done then just 2 eegs in the last 7yrs.

Hi tos8,

It sounds like you may be having simple partial sz. leading into complex partial sz. like me. I will often see colors of the rainbow flashing back and forth in my eyes and get a nervous feeling in my stomach this is a simple partial sz. then I blank out and sometimes wander around while other times I smack my lips a lot during the cp sz. if others are around you ask them to keep their eye on you and take note if you are smacking your lips, wandering around or pulling at your clothing this is all part of a cp sz.
From what it sounds like you are also having seasonal sz. meaning that you have more seizures at certain times of the yr. Since it seems like you need less serotonin cut back on the lights and see if that helps reduce your sz. and if you can get a FMRI, PET, SPEC, and CT scan done to get more detail of what's going on and triggering your sz. I have found seeing an Epileptologist the best thing I ever did these Drs. specialize in epilepsy and can treat it a lot better than any neuro. I have seen in the past 42 yrs. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!
