Default Neuro episode- partial seizure?

Hello all, and thank you for taking the time to read this. Ten years ago I experienced several episodes where I felt déjà vu, anxiety, a sense of unfamiliarity, like I stepped out of myself. It's so hard to explain. Weird memories pop up, some may not even be my own memories, and the whole experience is scary. I did tests and nothing was found. Recently these started again, and two days ago it happened in the shower, I blacked out and fell, cracking open my head. Luckily my mom was in town, and we went to the ER where they did an ekg and catscan, all normal. I'm very scared because since then I've been having these episodes daily, and I am alone with my 3 month old son every day. From what I researched it seems like it could be partial simple seizures. I see a neurologist in a week, but until then I was hoping anyone could share insight or experiences. Thank you in advance.

Wink Nice to meet you!!

scared new mom,

Hello and welcome, happy to see you have come to be with us, it a great place to be. As you can see we have a great number and caring fellow members here, where you have find a supportive and relaxing place. Have fun looking into the different forums. Our shoulders are here for support in many ways.

My advice to you is to start seeing an Epileptologist at an Epilepsy center you can find these Drs. at large hospitals or university hospitals these Drs. specialize in epilepsy. Start keeping track of each time a possible sz. happens write down what time it happens on a calendar along with a description of the sz. this will help the Dr. see if you have a pattern in your sz. if they happen at certain times of the day or night and what days of the month. As far as being moody that can happen from either the med or the area of the brain that is triggering the sz. Try taking vitamin B12 1000 mcg. once a day for adults. Cut back on the carbs and starch foods and stay away from anything with nutra sweet because the nutra sweet causing more electrical activity in a persons brain and can trigger sz. sometimes. Something else you should do is if you go to the theater for a movie, shut your eyes and turn your head when they have flashing light coming out. This can cause a seizure to start. While playing the game with your daughter, if it had bright flashing lights going on that could of triggered to seizure.

Please keep us up to date on your condition. Again welcome, looking forward to seeing you around. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Darlene

Hi Scared New Mom,

Welcome to the forum. Darlene gave you so great advice. Just like you I have had Deja Vu where I will be sitting in my own home but nothing looks familiar to me for a few seconds. When I spoke to my Epileptologist about this I was told this was a simple partial sz. and that the best way for this to stop was to try and concentrate when the deja vu is happening and repeat to yourself where you are and what's going on and it will bring you out of the sz. faster. Just like you I used to have sz. while taking a shower and I found out that it was the hot water hitting my head that was triggering the sz. and this usually always happened when my hormones were changing each month. As Darlene mentioned keep track of all your sz. write down what time they happened and the type of sz. you had also write down when you start and stop your monthly cycle. By doing this you can see if it's your hormones changing each month that's possibly triggering the sz. I always had sz. 1 week to 10 days before my cycle and then I would have 1 day after my cycle was over where I had sz.
Just like you I've had all the testing you have mentioned along with a spect and pet scan and my Dr. found only a scar on the right temporal lobe of my brain. Years later I had brain surgery done to reduce my sz. and this is when the Dr. found a lot more brain damage that not a single test showed and that's because the damage was way to deep in my brain for any of the tests to show. This could be what's going on with you. Once you see the neuro. ask them to do a fmri spect and pet scan on you so they can see more detail as to what's going on. Cut back on the caffeine also because that will reverse any sz. meds that you take. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Hi Scared New Mom,

Thank you for your kind words. I did want to let you know that if you like nuts of any kind you may find that they will help you. I found out that any type of nut has progesterone oil in them and when my hormones were out of whack as you mentioned I started to eat lightly salted almonds and believe it or not it reduced my sz.
Another thing you can buy in natural food stores in Natural Progesterone Cream you can put in on your skin 5 days before your cycle and it helps increase the progesterone level in you body which in turn calms the nerves. Natural progesterone is made from wild yams and peanut oil so if you are allgeric to either of these foods do not use it.
One other thing that can sometimes trigger sz. for some people is when a low pressure in the weather is going to happen. Often I will have sz. a day or 2 before any bad weather hits and that's because the barometric pressure is low and even though we may not realize it the air is heavier and that in turn can effect a persons hormones and trigger sz. If you keep track of your sz. take note if on any days that you have a sz. the weather is bad. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

scared new mom,

There are a great number of prescribtion medicine neuros will prescribe for you. What may help one patient may not help another. One medicine the neuro gave me I had to stop, because it would give some bad dealings. So it could take time to find out what is good for you. Hope this will help you out. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
