Default Daughter suffering with seizures

My daughter is 4 years old and has been going into her own world a lot I've been told it's absence seizures they are back to back and she has become withdrawn. She doesn't really communicate with her family and holds a good conversation cause she will go into a seizure her eyes go glazed over and she twitches she says random things and laughs and when I've asked what she's just she looks at me confused and doesn't answer me she doesn't really get much sleep either I am very concerned as it's getting worse she has become a danger to herself she can't seem to do much for herself anymore
She's due to see the neurologist soon
Any advice please

Hi Destineerowe1,
Welcome to neurotalk. I've had absence seizures for 44 yrs. and when I first started having them I was 10 yrs. old. Keep track of your childs sz. by writing down what time they happened on a calendar and take note if she is sick or if there's a low pressure in the weather because that can sometimes trigger sz. for some people. Your daughter will be confused and may want to sleep or have a headache after the sz. this is all normal. Your daughter may not be commincating because she's in a sz. and it's sometimes hard to tell. An absence sz. is like amnesia or a good ex. is if a person is drunk and they don't remember driving home or what happened the night before.
My advice to you is to get your daughter to an Epileptologist who specializes in epilepsy and have them do the detailed tests. These Drs. are great and can pinpoint the cause of the seizures along with keeping your daughter on the least amount of med. Make sure your daughter stays away from anything with NutraSweet in it and cut her back on the carbs and starch foods all of these can trigger seizures. You may want to put your daughter on the ketogenic diet which is a diet for epilepsy that's high in fat and you burn the fat off for energy while at the same time the high fat is building up ketones in the persons body to reduce the seizures. Also make sure your daughter gets plenty of sleep and stays away from stress. These are the 2 main things that can trigger seizures. If she uses a cell phone or if you do take note if when they are being used she has a sz. Sometimes people can be cell phone sensitive meaning when they are around people using cell phones it can trigger seizures. I found this out after having a special e.e.g. done and the Drs. purposely turned on there phones and started using them and then the spikes went up on the e.e.g. all of this is do to the frequency of the cell phone.
Here's wishing you and your daughter only the best of luck and May God Bless the Both of You!

Sue

Hi Destineerowe1,

If your daughter isn't sleeping well you may want to ask the neuro to do a sleep study on her along with an e.e.g. at the same time. By doing this they will be able to tell if she's having seizures in her sleep and if she has a sleep disorder like sleep apnea that can sometimes lead to seizures. I had this test done and I found out I was having seizures in my sleep but I didn't realize it.
Ask your daughter if she feels really tired in the morning or during the day this could be a sign of a sleep disorder.
Also if you daughter is having seizures in her sleep or when she first gets up in the morning she may be having myoclonic seizures. I had these for a short time and they stopped after my Dr. put me on vimpat.

Wishing you and your family only the best and May God Bless All of You,

Sue
