Our son just had his 3rd VNS generator replacement. It now is the model 106 aspire which has the heart rate monitor function. The new generator was implanted on 03/01/2017 and activated with the old settings. On 03/29/2017 his neurologist activated the heart rate monitor function and adjusted the new settings. Everything was as usual with his seizure activity and expression until this Saturday and Sunday. His seizures have tripled each day. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar reaction to the heart rate monitor with the activation of the Model 106? Just trying to sort out anything that may cause this unusual increase. Will be calling his neurologist in the morning for help. Just wanted to hear from anyone on the forum who has any experience with the VNS model 106 Aspire.
Thank you for any information you may have for us. Oldhat |

Hi oldhat,
I've never had the VNS done but my Epileptologist and family Dr. have told me that my rapid or irregular heartbeat can increase my seizures. Also if a person has temporal lobe epilepsy that can have a connection with the heart rate and if it's going to fast or to slow. After I found out I had a rapid heartbeat my seizures increased a lot. You may want to speak with a heart specialist and have your son have an echocardiogram done to be sure he isn't having more seizures do to heart problems. This is what my Dr. ordered for me. I wish you and your family the best of luck and May God Bless All of You! Sue |
