My son has been complaing alot of headaches, when he was in the EMU and they induced seizures he also complained of heaches after the seizures.

The other day at gym he said he felt like he might have a seizure, he didnt have one but said he also had a bad headache that evening, after picking himup from school yesterday he said he had another headache and he said he had that same feeling like he was going to have a seizure.

Im wondering is it normal to have headaches after seizures or does this sound like migraines..he has been sick to his stomach the past several days and complaing of alot of headaches and dizzyness the past coule of weeks.

Should I call the doc or is this something completely normal?

Of course you ought to call the dr., he will know better than any of US what is causing the headaches. However, we can still offer advice and our own personal experiences.

Do you know whether they are regular headaches or migraines? If he complains of lights and noise bothering him, it's most likely migraines. If he doesn't even want to play his PS2 or whatever game system he has, then it is most likely migraines.

I never had any real problems with migraines until I started taking all the meds I am on. I know that one side effect of Lamictal, my ep med., is headaches. I am also on other drugs for aids and for rsd., so when you add them all together, it's a recipe for migraines.

Bad posture also cause headaches, so can poor eyesight and straining to see the chalkboard at school. Has he had his vision tested by the school or a dr.? You could call the school and ask them if they'd perform one on him... I think the regular school nurse can test him, and tell you whether or not he needs to see an optometrist. At least, back when my kids were in school it worked that way... it's how I found out that my oldest son needed glasses.

Best of luck, and I sure hope he quits having headaches... they are miserable. I hate to hear that any kid is suffering from them.

I have headaches after seizures and if left untreated, they turn into migraines which will end up triggering nausea and things of the like. Once they got too bad for me to handle, I was given Butalbital for headaches and Relpax for migraines (more of an 'oh crap' emergency pill, very expensive).

It is really hard to guess and you're best bet is to call his doctor (neurologist) to discuss this because it could be one of many things (aura, headache after a seizure, if he's feeling like he's going to have a seizure he could be getting a stress headache from fear of seizure, headache from medications, or even allergies).

Take my word I had many headaches before and after my sz. for many yrs. I started having migraine headaches which in turn led to sz. when I was 10 yrs. old (44 now). Then as I got older the headaches would happen after I had a sz. the headaches finally stopped after I had brain surgery to help reduce my sz. in 1994.
My advice to you is to call your sons neuro and give him/her the info. also take note of the weather because sometimes a low pressure can cause the headaches and lead to sz. for some people. If I may ask: "Is this your sons first week back to school since summer break?" The reason why ask this question is I always notice I have many more sz. once school starts up again in the fall and I'm working with the students. If this is the case it might be the stress of getting back into the swing of going to school again or it might be a change in the seasons. I always have many more sz. and headaches in the fall and winter compared to the summer and fall. Here's wishing you both well and May God Bless You!

It's not uncommon to have headaches after having
seizures, nor "tummy aches" or feeling queasy, nor
is being sensitive to light, or having the desire to sleep,
but of course - being the child they are, wanting to
play and not being tied down unaware that they
can provoke themselves into more trouble (that was
my problem on my end when I was a child, I wanted
to be involved, not tied down and left out).

Excess excitement, over-activeness, and the whole
hoopla, and even worse if it's just before lunch or
recess or after lunch can be insulting (or Physical
Education if they're older).

So like everyone posted above - make a note and
an appointment and talk with the Doctor!

I always get a cluster-type pain in my right eye after several simple partial szs and just have to wait for them to stop. Nothing helps the pain. It all just stops on its own eventually, usually within about 12-18 hours.

I have head aches just about all the tie it seems. Of course i have a bad headache or mirgraine after i come to from seizures ( i have no idea they are coming on). I do have reg, migrainges were lights bother you and you end up in bed and sick, i got pills for those. Had to talk to my neuro about pills for my migraines. Course my meds for seizures don`t help keppra, lamictal, zonagran. these will tend to give me head aches.

My situation seems a bit different. I get left side of head above the ear headaches that are piercing type that when they come are intense yet will not last too long. They can either be a sign of over excitability in my brain ( caused by stress, noise or other triggers) or a sign a seizure could come.

One thing I read in your post that I personally identified with was:

When I was a child many many years ago, I remember having the head ache upset stomach thing in Gym alot. Now I can admit I just was afraid to do gym do to fear of having a seizures. A normal fear, yet one most teachers would not understand, as they do not most likely have seizures.

Hope things can sorted out for your son and he feels better soon.
