Default Ear symptoms?

Are blockage sensations in the ear/ disorientation/ loss of balance typical symptoms of epilepsy? My friend is in limbo with getting a diagnosis... he has had 2 seizures, and is dealing with these ear symptoms currently and wondering if they could be the precipitation of another seizure coming on?

Hi,
Welcome to the forum! I know that ear blockage can cause a person to lose their balance but all of the other symptoms you have mentioned all relate to epilepsy. My advice for your friend is to see a neurologist and have a e.e.g. done this will show if there are any seizures. I 've had epilepsy for 35 yrs. now and I found I got the best help going to a University Hospital where there's an Epilepsy Center. There a person can work with an Epileptologist, Dr. who specializes in Epilepsy, a neuropsychologist and neurosurgeon. All these Drs. work together as a team.
Check out these web pages for more info.

when the main page comes up click on epilepsy

Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

greetings teletubbiemom, She should get that EEG done but I want to tell you --- an EEG isn't always positive for ppl with epilepsy. My 1st few weren't.

I don't know if this is similar, but often I lose hearing, it feels numb down the side of my face, neck and ear, and feels like a blockage, almost as if I have had dental work, and a siezure usually follows. I am wondering if this is similar to what your friend experiences?

I had epilepsy as a child then nothing for years, when I hit my 20's I had another 2 seizures, then nothing for over ten years; then it hit en force with one large seizure and a series of smaller ones, and then in reverse, small ones leading up to tc. Because the seizures don't follow a set pattern other than with the photosensitivity, it is difficult to pin what will happen.

The one thing I have learned about epilepsy is that it is fickle and having several types of siezures can be very confusing. Especially when siezures don't happen the day you have tests done.

I wish your friend all the best...
