I was thrown on pheno all @ once, but now have to go monthly to wean it off. It was a weekly ordeal to get on the lamictal level, so can I get it off quickly?

I am kinda confused-- are u asking about weaning the pheno or the Lamictal ? Your post heading talks about Lamictal, but your post itself talks about adding pheno all at once and I am not clear what is happening as far as the Lamictal, your particular situation and what is going on with both meds....

In general though, most seizure and long term medications are weaned off in incriments in order to prevent withdrawl seizures and other strange things. Most of the time, the weaning schedules aren't as slow as the titrating ones, but it can depend a lot on the med (as some are titrated very fast, and others are more slowely done so).

Glad to know I'm not the only confused person.

I was put on pheno the original level during the status. Now I can only remove 15mg a month. That will take forever.
Lamictal was put on after 8 months of adding 50mg. I am just preparing to insist upon removing lamictal if these blurred eyes continue. It's not an hour ordeal, it's A.M. into the afternoon. That's a bit too much for me. I had assumed it was the pheno causing it, but I am almost 1/2 down the original level & it just keeps on going.

You don't mention how much Lamictal you are on, but in anycase, you might consider asking your neurologist to do a medication level to see the amount of the medication in your bloodstream. While theese are not "exact" things, if the level is outside of the normal range it can indicate toxicity--which can be mild or major depending on the symptoms and you might need to decrease your dosage. Also, on a similiar note, before you totally give up on the Lamictal, consider asking your neurologist to decrease your dosage OR divide it up differently to reduce the side effects and/or severity of them.... This can take a while to see changes, so don't expect to see a huge difference in only a few days.....

I've been on Lamictal for about 5 years now (I am also on other seizure meds) and have adjusted the dosage and timing many times, re titrated when I had side effects and all the typical things that go along with finding what works best and what doesn;t (which is so individual).
