Hello everyone, I hope all had a wonderful holiday, and wish you all the very best for the upcoming year. My family and I were blessed, many people came forward and made sure we had a wonderful holiday, it is the Christmas that I will remember as the best one ever.

on to my question...I had requested my records from my nuero surgeon, and recieved a copy of the results of the MRI i had done on 11-30. There were findings listed, about the scar tissue from the avm, the appearance of the meningioma, which the surgeon says has not changed, and also listed was a possibility of a condition that they called Mesial Temporal Sclerosis. When I typed this in on google, hippocampal Scelrosis kept coming up. In fact some websites had it listed as a synonym. The Mri said that the MRI results could indicate Mesial Temporal Scelrosis in the correct clinicical setting. Not sure what that means...any thoughts? Also, has anyone here ever been diagnosed with this? and what are the results (so to speak)?

Hippocampal sclerosis is when a persons hippcampus in the brain becomes hard and shrinks causing short term memory problems. This often happens after yrs. of sz.
There's a hippocampus on the right and left side of the brain and when I had surgery done in 1994 on the RTL my neurosurgeon removed the right hippocampus because it had become hard and shrunk a lot. Since the surgery my short term memory isn't that great. I have trouble with spelling words that are simple, and I will see a friend/family and I don't remember the persons name but I recognize their face.
I've been told to do a lot of math, word search puzzles and crossword puzzles to help better my memory. I also do a lot of brain teaser questions for ex. 12+12 = 24. Can 12+12+12 ? All you have to do is add. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

The above post is correct. This is the cause of my epilepsy too. The scar left in my brain from very high fever as an infant is an area of epileptogenic activity since the neurons in the scar try to work and misfire. Think of a sca on your skin. It protects the body and trys to do the job it was meant to, but it is not exact anymore due to the damage it suffered. Same principle as the sclerotic area in the brain. Both examples are sclerotic. The area in my brain was small at first but it misfired occasionally which results in seizures. Over time, it can worsen if not stopped. The hippocampus is an area of the brain behind the temporal lobe that is many times one of the areas affected in epilepsy. Very epileptogenic. Very common too. Epilepsy from this cause or with this dignosis of mesial hippocampal/temporal sclerosis has the best prognosis from surgery. I had surgery 10 years ago and would do it again if needed!
