Hi. I'm completely new to this and I only signed up because I wanted to know if anyone can help me. I think I had a seizure, but I have no idea. I've never been diagnosed with any serious medical conditions, although I do have chronic migraines and depression. I'm 17 years old and I do smoke.

I was laying down on my bed when my body suddenly jerked and I couldn't move. I couldn't think, couldn't feel anything, and I couldn't breathe. I got really hot all of a sudden and I had to focus on my breathing otherwise I would've stopped. I thought I was gunna sufficate. It lasted for what seemed like ten seconds at the most and, once I was able to breathe normally, I was able to move again. It was really weird and afterwords, I couldn't stop shaking for over an hour. I was really cold and felt sick to my stomach. Does this sound like any type of seizure? It's happened twice so far, in a span of about a month and a half. My mom has had brain cancer, twice, so things like this do run in my family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do have epilepsy but all I can tell you is that seizures come in so many different forms that there is no way we non-doctors can help.

I can suggest that you make an appointment with your doctor NOW and do write down what's happening so you can give him an exact account.
Even keep track of what you're eating, drinking and feeling.

And don't be scared...... Talk here all you want. We listen and we care.

We Are All here for each other in times like this so never think you are alone.and yes please talk to your doctor about this and write down every thing that has happen at these times they need to know everything that has happen so far and never feel you are alone we are all in the same boat . just before you had this seizure did you get a feeling in your head that something was going to happen if you did this would be called a aura some people get them and some don,t.
I am not a doctor so I am not going to say forsure you had one but to me this does sound like some I have heard of.when I get one I first get this weird feeling in my head that something is going to happen which would be my aura so I get ready for my seizure to come by siting or laying down at that point so I don,t hurt myself then I just lose my voice and I jerk for a few seconds and slur my words then its all over.they don,t last very long it just seems they do.if this sounds like what you go thru please take this to your doctor as well and this will explain a little to him or her.I do hope that you keep coming back and leting us know how things are going,good luck

Welcome to NeuroTalk! I've had seizures for 36 yrs. and depression, and migraines can often be a part of seizures. There are many types of seizures if I may ask after you had the jerking, hot feeling etc, did you have a headache or feel really tired? If this happened it could possibly have been a seizure. My advice to you is to have your family Dr. refer you to see a neurologist or Epileptologist (Dr. specializing in epilepsy). Also keep a calendar and write down what time these possible seizures happen along with a description by doing this the Dr. may see a pattern as to what time of day or night you could be having seizures. Stay away from nutra sweet because that can cause more electrical activity in the brain which can lead to seizures. A lot of this could be hormone related when the hormones change every month it can cause seizures for some people. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

One of the best advisories to do is consult with your
Primary Care Physician and alert him/her of the event
as soon as possible, especially if he/she already has
your historical information. The Primary Care Physician
would then go over everything and evaluate you from
that standpoint and then consider everything from there.

But it is generally a good idea if all possible to keep a log,
journal, diary, or anything - if you are experiencing this
often. If this was a one-time event, you should have been
in the Hospital ER - there could be a lot of reasons why
such event happened but not necessarily "Epilepsy" for
there are things that can trigger seizures.

And on the final note - be honest and open with your
Doctor and don't hide anything back either!
