Arrow New AED/stabilizer up for FDA approval - eslicarbazepine (Stedesa)

A new med - called eslicarbazepine (S-licarbazepine), is coming down the pike for Epilepsy and possibly affective disorders. It has been submitted to the FDA for approval.

Apparently this shows good promise for treatment of refractory partial szs and has the advantage of once a day dosing. It is related chemically to oxcarbazepine (Trileptal) and carbamazepine (Tegretol) however it has an improved safety profile. From the information i found so far i was unable to discern whether the cross-sensitivity well known between Trileptal/Tegretol might still be a problem with this drug or not.

Much more detail is posted in the complete thread of the same name, in the Medications Forum - here is the link:

If you find more technical information, please add it to the thread in the Medications Forum, as I am making a few threads like this which point to that one.

I figure this thread might be a good place rather to discuss its impact or anything about it specifically related to Epilepsy.

wishing all of you the best!
