Hi Belinda,
I took Tegretol for many yrs. and then right out of the blue I broke out with a rash, my neuro I was seeing then put me on Trileptal and I told him it was almost like Tegretol and once again I broke out with a rash, then I tried Lamictal and I broke out with a rash. I feel the same way you do I'm sick and tired of having sz. and my sz. have gotten worse over the yrs. even though I had surgery to reduce them. According to the Epi who I'm seeing now he told me that when a woman goes through their change it can make the sz. worse or sometimes better. You might want to try taking vitamin B12 magnesium, and go on the ketogenic diet. I've found this to be of some help for me. I'm no Dr. but it sounds like you might be drug resistant like I am. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

Sue.,
I am med resistant which is drug resistant to any drug in Tegretol Family that's not the original Tegretol. When I took Lamictal I didn't break out in a rash I just itched like crazy. I'm allergic to depakote,Gabitril, Keppra,Vimpat,Lamictal.
I've never tried the ketogenic diet and I've just finished going through menopause.

Hi Belinda,
If you're interested in the ketogenic diet you can by the book by Dr. John Freeman from Hopkins University titled "The Epilepsy Diet Treatment" Just like you I've also gone through menopause and it was after I went through menopause that the sz. increased I used to have only absence and complex partial sz. now I'm also having myoclonic and drop sz. where I will thrash around. I have a cousin who had tonic clonic sz. all her life but when she went through her change her sz. stopped and she hasn't had a single sz. in over 20 yrs. I don't know what type of sz. you have but if you have absence or cp sz. you might want to try taking Diamox that was very helpful for me but then everyone is different. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue,
I have Cp SP absence atonic, generalized, tonic, clonic seizures.
I've tried Diamox and it didn't help my seizures.
My sz's change from time to time for know reason.
I now take Tegretol,Topamax,Clonazepam.Vimpat and I lowered the dose of vimpat and I'm able to get by on 1 pill a day with not as much itching, and haven't had a sz since been on it.
