My son took it for seizures and the worst thing it did was make him grumpy as all get out. I really feel that is where his attitude problems started. It also made him tired and sleepy.

Hope that helps.

Thumbs down

Roz! Fancy "seein'" you here.

I may be in the minority, but Teg really screwed me up. I had so many horrible effects from it that I was suicidal all the time for nearly 3 years. That was nearly 20 years ago, and I can still say I'm lucky to be alive.

The best thing to do is to know your body. If anything seems even remotely weird to you after starting any drug, tell the pharmacist and get info. Then tell your doctor. I cannot stress this enough.

yes you will never know where I will pop up. So Tegretol made you crazy . I am hurting so bad for the past few days and now my ankles are all swollen up. Dr. had mentioned this drug last time I was in to see him . These are all the meds I have tried , Neurontin, Topamax , Cymbalta , Lyrica , Ameritriptiline and now Keppra . So dont know what to do. Roz What do you think ?

I haven't personally heard of many of those being used for pain medication. What type of pain is it (muscle, skeletal, nerve, etc.)?

Hi Roz,
I took tegretol for yrs. for my sz. it made me a bit moody but it was helpful controling my sz. The one thing I didn't like about tegretol is that you can't eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice because of the enzymes in the fruit. They will mess up the tegretol. Also I had kidney stones from taking tegretol and I sure wouldn't want you to go through that wicked pain.
As far as neurontin my advice to you is to stay away from the drug it can cause a persons sz. to become more severe. I was on neurontin for pain after a concussion and I ended up having status sz. my spelling went down hill, and so did my short term memory. My family Dr. was the one who put me on the drug and when my epi saw what he did he took me off the drug and the status sz. stopped but it left more brain damage. The drug company that makes neurontin has over $240 million in lawsuits on them for how the drug has affected people.
My advice to you is to try and take vitamin B12 if the pain has anything to do with the nervous system. It has helped me a lot and it also has reduced my sz. Here's wishing you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Hi,
You might want to ask your Dr. to put you on a muscle relaxer that's what my husband was put on after he had back surgery and the nerves were bothering him a lot. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!
